Friday Night Smackdown – Dec 30th 2022: Results & Review

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this review of this past Friday’s episode of Friday Night Smackdown – the last Smackdown of 2022, right here on Nerdly. Let’s see what went down on the show!

Match #1: Solo Sikoa def. Sheamus

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

In the height of an explosive showdown pitting Sheamus against Solo Sikoa, interference from The Usos incited a brawl between The Bloodline and The Brawling Brutes outside the ring. During the bedlam, Sikoa overcame Sheamus with the Samoan Spike – a tribute to the late great Samoan Superstar Umaga. After the matchup, Ridge Holland & Butch were swiftly taken out of the equation, paving the way for The Enforcer to cause further damage on his defeated opponent with a steel chair. Before he could, though, Drew McIntyre suddenly reemerged on SmackDown and cleared the ring!

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #2: SmackDown Women’s Title Match – Ronda Rousey def. Raquel Rodriguez

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Despite heroically fighting through the pain of her injured arm, Raquel Rodriguez was defeated by Ronda Rousey in a SmackDown Women’s Title Match when the titleholder locked in an Armbar on the top rope and immediately drove her opponent’s injured arm down on the canvas to make her tap out.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #3: SmackDown Women’s Title Match – Charlotte def. Ronda Rousey

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Before Rousey could celebrate her victory over Raquel Rodriguez, The Opportunity suddenly came knocking. Charlotte Flair made a stunning return from an injury that Rousey had caused and immediately challenged the champion to a title contest. When The Baddest Woman on the Planet went for an Armbar in the impromptu matchup, Flair quickly turned the tables and rolled up The Rowdy One to become a 14-time Women’s Champion!

My Score: 1 out of 5

Match #4: John Cena & Kevin Owens def. Roman Reigns & Sami Zayn

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

In a highly-anticipated main event showdown on the final SmackDown of 2022, John Cena returned to join forces with Kevin Owens against Roman Reigns & Sami Zayn. The Leader of the Cenation and KO hit a double Five Knuckle Shuffle on The Head of the Table and The Honorary Uce. Cena then took out Reigns with the Attitude Adjustment and opened the door for Owens to hit the Stunner on Zayn for the three-count.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Final Verdict: 2.5/5

I was honestly REALLY looking forward to this week’s show after last week’s terrible effort, especially with the main event featuring John Cena (who’s still got the moves etc., but is really headed – visually – into “old man” territory like Sting) but this episode did nothing but disappoint. It was dull. Plain and simple. The excitement wasn’t there. Even with Charlotte returning and scoring the WOmen’s title there was nothing to raise my interest in this show. Sidenote: Anyone else think that Charlotte now looks like a Carmela clone? Seriously, at first glance I thought it was Carmela coming out after Rousey’s match! A disappointing end to the WWE’s 2022…
