Friday Night Smackdown – May 27th 2022: Results & Review

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this review of this past Friday’s episode of Friday Night Smackdown, right here on Nerdly. Last week’s episode was SO close to making a 3-star show so let’s see what happens this week! Let’s see…

Match #1: Ronda Rousey vs. Raquel Rodriguez (No-Contest)

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

A sudden sneak attack by a disgruntled Shayna Baszler and Natalya brought a halt to SmackDown Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey’s matchup against Raquel Rodriguez. After the two worked together to oust their attackers from the ring, an impromptu tag team showdown was made by WWE official Adam Pearce.

My Score: 1 out of 5

Match #2: Ronda Rousey & Raquel Rodriguez def. Shayna Baszler & Natalya

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

In an impromptu tag team showdown, Ronda Rousey battled Natalya outside the ring and paved the way for Raquel Rodriguez to hit the Tahana Bomb on Shayna Baszler for the victory.

My Score: 1 out of 5

Match #3: Los Lotharios def. Jinder Mahal & Shanky

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

During a frenzied tag team showdown, “skyscraping” Shanky was distracted with taking out Angel and unleashing his own brand of dance moves. The distraction allowed Humberto to pick up the victory over The Modern Day Maharaja. After the match, the outraged Mahal stormed off, and Shanky was left to dance the night away at ringside.

My Score: 1 out of 5

Match #4: Gunther & Ludwig Kaiser def. Ricochet & Drew Gulak

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

After Ricochet stepped in to save Drew Gulak from being crushed by Gunther last week, the pair teamed up against The Ring General and his lieutenants’ sinister superiority. In the a show of dominance, Kaiser hurled Intercontinental Champion Ricochet outside the ring before taking down Gulak with a hard kick to the chest. Gunther and Kaiser then added a vicious post-match attack.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #5: Drew McIntyre & The New Day def. The Brawling Brutes

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston were joined by surprise teammate Drew McIntyre, who evened the odds against Sheamus, Ridge Holland and Butch. As order broke completely broke down, The SmackDown Warrior blasted Holland with the Claymore Kick. He then tagged in Woods, who finally got payback by dropping the big elbow off the top rope for the win over Holland.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Final Verdict: 2/5

Well that didn’t last long. I was hoping for a better episode than last week and instead we got a WORSE one! What the hell was going on in the first half of this show? I don’t understand how you can produce such unimportant content. The first three matches were some of the worst wrestling matches of the entire week. Can’t imaging Fox will be too happy with Smackdown if this rubbish continues. Thankfully we got a decent(ish) main event but once again, WWE is rely on the same talent to deliver, which they do, but when that talent goes, what or who is going to replace them?
