‘WWE Raw’ Review (Jul 10th 2023)

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this review of this past Monday’s episode of WWE Raw, right here on Nerdly… Let’s see what went down on this week’s show!

Match #1: Drew McIntyre and Matt Riddle def. Imperium

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Although Intercontinental Champion Gunther dragged Drew McIntyre out of the squared circle, he was quickly neutralized by the flying knee of Matt Riddle. The Original Bro then locked up Ludwig Kaiser as The Scottish Warrior blasted Giovanni Vinci with the Claymore Kick for the victory.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #2: Zoey Stark def. Becky Lynch

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

During a highly personal matchup against Zoey Stark, Becky Lunch turned her attention to an interfering Trish Stratus. Unfortunately for her, the split-second distraction allowed the WWE Hall of Famer’s protégé to pick up the quick victory on Becky Lynch.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #3: Shayna Baszler def. Emma

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Moments after Shayna Baszler put down Emma with Kirifuda Clutch, her one-time tag team partner Ronda Rousey charged the ring and ignited a fierce brawl with The Queen of Spades.

My Score: 1 out of 5

Match #4: No DQ Match – The Miz def. Tommaso Ciampa

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

After Bronson Reed emerged from nowhere to launch a vicious attack on Tommaso Ciampa in the final moments of a hard-fought No Disqualification Match, The Miz was ready, willing and able to pick up the victory over his war-torn opponent.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #5: Chelsea Green & Sonya Deville def. Kayden Carter & Katana Chance

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

En route to her high-stakes match against WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez next week, Chelsea Green used the ropes to score an underhanded tag team victory over Katana Chance with Sonya Deville holding tightly to her feet just out of the official’s view.

My Score: 1 out of 5

Match #6: The Judgment Day def. Seth “Freakin” Rollins, Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Despite major speculation running wild about The Judgment Day, Finn Bálor, Damian Priest and “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio worked with absolute precision to overcome Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn and World Heavyweight Champion Seth “Freakin” Rollins. After Priest hit South of Heaven, The Prince sealed the win with the Coup de Grace.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Final Verdict: 3/5

This felt a little like deja vu, another wrestling show that had great wrestling, actual in-ring action that was good, but the overall show felt dull. Apart from two women’s squash matches this was a solid show that had banger after banger. Yet for all that I was getting bored at various points during the show! I honestly feel like WWE needs a shot in the arm for their weekly output (and so does AEW, but not as often IMHO) – maybe new talent? Though given how call-ups have worked in recent years maybe they need LITERAL new talent? A surprise or two perhaps? Still… I can’t fault the wrestling on this week’s Raw, that’s for sure.
