‘WWE Raw’ Review (Mar 27th 2023)

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this review of this past Monday’s episode of WWE Raw, right here on Nerdly… We’re still on the road to Wrestlemania so let’s get into it!

Match #1: Becky Lynch def. IYO SKY

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Days before joining WWE Hall of Famers Lita and Trish Stratus in a WrestleMania Triple Threat Match against Damage CTRL, Becky Lynch picked up a huge win by defeating IYO SKY with the Man-handle Slam in a hard-fought showdown.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #2: Seth “Freakin” Rollins def. Mustafa Ali

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Seth “Freakin” Rollins prepared for his highly-personal WrestleMania matchup against Logan Paul by removing the smile from the positive Mustafa Ali with a pair of devastating stomps.

My Score: 1 out of 5

Match #3: Braun Strowman, Ricochet & The Street Profits def. Alpha Academy and The Viking Raiders

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Before all eight Superstars battle in a WrestleMania Showcase Match, order completely broke down in the final moments of an Eight-Man Tag Team Match. Out of this bedlam, Ricochet launched himself off Braun Strowman’s shoulders and directly onto Erik of The Viking Raiders. Seconds later, Montez Ford followed up by leaping off the top rope over the towering Strowman, changed direction in mid-air and landed on Erik for the three-count. The victory earned enormous momentum for Strowman, Ricochet and The Street Profits en route to The Showcase of the Immortals.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Match #4: Sonya Deville & Chelsea Green def. Michin & Candice LeRae

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Sonya Deville delivered a surprise punch to Michin on the apron at a critical point in a high-stakes tag team match. This paved the way for Chelsea Green to hit the Unprettier to earn the hard-fought victory over Michin & Candice LeRae. With the win, Chelsea and Sonya earned the final spot in the WrestleMania Showcase Fatal 4-Way Tag Team Match.

My Score: 1 out of 5

Match #5: Rey Mysterio def. Damian Priest (DQ)

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Days after agreeing to take on his son Dominik at WrestleMania, Rey Mysterio went one-on-one with The Judgment Day’s Damian Priest and hit the 619. Before he could hit the splash off the top rope, however, Dominik Mysterio attacked and brought an end to the match by disqualification. Dominik and Priest wasted little time launching a vicious attack on the 2023 Hall of Fame inductee until Legado del Fantasma emerged to save Rey.

My Score: 1 out of 5

Match #6: Gunther def. Dolph Ziggler

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Intercontinental Champion Gunther prepared for his turbulent Triple Threat Match at The Show of Shows by decimating two-time World Champion Dolph Ziggler before ending his night with the Powerbomb.

My Score: 1.5 out of 5

Match #7: Cody Rhodes def. Solo Sikoa

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

In the final moments of a truly explosive main event between Cody Rhodes and the undefeated Solo Sikoa, The American Nightmare hit his opponent with the Cross Rhodes. The Enforcer of The Bloodline had the presence of mind to get his foot on the ropes, though, and stopped the crucial three-count. Moments later, Rhodes missed a moonsault on Solo but rebounded with the second Cody Cutter of the night. That brought Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions The Usos to ringside to instantly disrupt the action. They were immediately neutralized when Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens rushed in to even the odds and battle with their WrestleMania opponents all the way to the backstage area. Moments later, Rhodes avoided the dreaded Samoan Spike and blasted Solo with the Cross Rhodes for the unbelievable victory.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Final Verdict: 2.5/5

Once again the entire show was made by the Bloodline and Bloodline-adjacent storylines, keeping up the Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens and Cody Rhodes triumvirate against Roman Reigns and co. To be fair we did get a good main event, an OK opener and a great multi-man tag match on top of the excellent promos. Yet once again, given the shoddy squash matches on the card this week, you’d probably be better off watching highlights on YouTube and other social media rather than the full show.
