‘AEW: Dark’ Review (Mar 4th 2023)

by Phil Wheat

We had another AEW pay-per-view this past weekend, so you know what that means… A bonus Saturday episode of AEW: Dark which thankfully only features a handful of matches rather than the growing number of the regular Dark features! Anyway, on with the review…

Match #1: The Acclaimed def. The Workhorsemen

My Thoughts: A great start to this special extra episode of Dark, with one of my favourite tag teams taking on one of AEW’s most popular tag teams in a match that ended up being a exciting back and forth that thankfully didn’t have The Workhorsemen just lying down and eating the pin.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Match #2: Daniel Garcia def. Aaron Solo

My Thoughts: And I could say the exact same thing I said about the opening match for this one too… Aaron Solo and Daniel Garcia matched up really well, with Solo looking his best in ages in this match! I could’ve done without the Sammy Guevara interference but then it looked like Garcia could too.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Match #3: Hook def. “Pretty” Peter Avalon

My Thoughts: I know he’s pretty (pun intended) much getting squashed in every match but honestly it’s great to see Peter Avalon in singles action and away from the Wingmen. He was always so good in Championship Wrestling and it feels like he’s getting somewhere close to that in AEW now with the promos he’s delivering. Still this was a squash match!

My Score: 1 out of 5

Match #4: Lucha Brothers (Penta El Zero Miedo & Rey Fenix) and Mark Briscoe def. Lee Moriarty, Matt Hardy and Isiah Kassidy

My Thoughts: In what you could consider a warm-up for their team-up at Revolution, the Lucha Brothers and Mark Briscoe take on Lee Moriarty, Matt Hardy and Isiah Kassidy. It eas interesting seeing Lee Moriarty in the mix rather than Ethan Page, whose usually the third [boss] man in this team. But this was all about Briscoe and the Luchas, and pleasing the crowd in attendance – which this match certainly did. The Lucha Brothers did their usual high-flying, fast-paced wrestling while Mark Briscoe pulled out the redneck kung-fu and hitting an elbow to eventually get the win.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Final Verdict: 3.5/5

FYI, one of the best all-round episodes of Dark in a while… Don’t miss this one!
