‘WWE NXT’ Review (Nov 8th 2022)

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this week’s review of NXT, right here on Nerdly. Without further ado, let’s get into the review… hey, that rhymed!

Match #1: Joe Gacy def. Cameron Grimes

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Joe Gacy is looking to lead Schism into a new, more dominant chapter, but first he was hoping to conquer the resistance from Cameron Grimes. As the action in the match heated up, Grimes would decleat Gacy with a pair of kicks that had the match headed to the moon. A new viciousness was on display, as Gacy whipped up a crushing backbreaker as The Dyad swarmed on the outside. Grimes would battle back with an incredible Poison Rana and took out Gacy, Rip Fowler and Jagger Reid on the outside. Grimes would then take the opportunity to head to the top rope, but Ava Raine would derail his potential victory and set up a Gacy lariat for a Schism triumph.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #2: Elektra Lopez def. Sol Ruca

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Elektra Lopez put the NXT Women’s division on notice with her return and showed just how dangerous she could be in the ring against Sol Ruca. Lopez used her experience to level Ruca with a clothesline outside of the ring, and then have her opponent’s high-risk move backfire against her. Lopez sent an electric shock through Ruca with a powerful slam, but Indi Hartwell would emerge after the match to target the victorious Superstar.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #3: Charlie Dempsey def. Andre Chase

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

The Chase U crew had Andre Chase fired up heading into his matchup with Charlie Dempsey, as Duke Hudson and Thea Hail joined him at ringside. Chase had the student section fired up with a series of stomps to his opponent, but Dempsey would quickly reverse into a debilitating ankle lock. As Chase tried desperately to hang on, Hudson went with better judgment and threw in the towel to the chagrin of the University’s leader.

My Score: 1 out of 5

Match #4: Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo def. Hank Walker

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Tony D’Angelo’s top lieutenant was looking to make a statement, but Hank Walker has been rising quick up the NXT ranks. Walker showed off his power as he tossed Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo across the ring, but a thumb to the eye opened the door and “Stacks” slammed it shut with a knee stomp that got a big thumbs up from The Don.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #5: JD McDonagh def. Axiom

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

JD McDonagh continues to make enemies, but that seems to have lit a fire inside him for a matchup against the high-flying Axiom. The superhero quickness of Axiom was undeniable, as a swift kick to McDonagh sent him sprawling to the outside of the ring. The surgical McDonagh would begin targeting his opponent’s left knee, but Axiom would show his grit with a dropkick and skyscraping moonsault. As McDonagh kept his sights set on the knee, Axiom kept reversing but the sadistic Superstar finally locked up his opponent and bent his knee in ungodly fashion. After the match, McDonagh gloated in front of the NXT Universe and called out Apollo Crews, as Axiom was escorted out by medical personnel.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Match #6: Damon Kemp def. Brutus Creed (DQ)

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

After Julius Creed’s Ambulance Match win at Halloween Havoc, Brutus Creed finally got his five minutes to tear apart Damon Kemp. The two Superstars let it all hang out with a knockdown, drag-out brawl with each looking to settle past grievances. As the bad blood boiled over, Brutus grabbed the steel chair Kemp had brought into the ring and repaid his rival with a brutal string of smashes. The Creed Brothers celebrated alongside Ivy Nile, but Indus Sher took position in the Performance Center perch to let Julius & Brutus know their next brutal chapter awaits.

My Score: 1 out of 5

Match #7: NXT Women’s Tag Team Title Match – Katana Chance & Kayden Carter def. Nikkita Lyons & Zoey Stark

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Nikkita Lyons & Zoey Stark were looking to take full advantage of their NXT Women’s Tag Team Title rematch after a heartbreaking loss to Katana Chance & Kayden Carter the first time around. The champions really started to cruise, as they showed their chemistry with tandem acrobatics against the challengers. A miscommunication proved nearly disastrous until Lyons took the brunt of two Superkicks, but it allowed Chance & Cater to hit their finish on Stark and retain as champions. After the match, Stark used one of the titles to take out her teammate and leave Lyons crumpled in the ring after a failed championship bid.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Final Verdict: 2.5/5

God this was lacklustre, feeling like WWE’s version of an AEW Dark episode(!), with only the JD McDonagh and Axiom match providing anything worth watching, so… if you just watch that match or clips of that match then that’s my suggestion this week!
