‘AEW Dark: Elevation – Episode 62’ Review

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this week’s review of AEW Dark: Elevation, we’re back to just Mark Henry and Paul Wight on commentary and this week’s show is a short but sweet 5-match card. Let’s get right into the action!

Match #1: Dark Order (Evil Uno, Alex Reynolds, Alan “5” Angels, and 10) def. Ryan Mooney, Diego, Jose Fuller, and Brandon Scott

My Thoughts: Dark Order opens the show this week rather than closes but we still get the same squash match from them. Though given their opponents that’s to be expected. I’m guessing we have to get used to this new finisher from 10 and Evil Uno too given that Stu Grayson has left AEW and his long-term tag teammate.

My Score: 1.5 out of 5

Match #2: Abadon def. Emi Sakura

My Thoughts: This was a great outing for Abadon, who was given a decent amount of time and a balanced opponent in Emi Sakura. You actually believed Sakura could give Abadon some difficulty and thankfully she did fight back, which meant we got a match rather than the usual squash match from Abadon. Great outing for the underused monster of AEW.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #3: Sonny Kiss def. Peter Avalon

My Thoughts: What a pop Sonny Kiss got coming to the ring! This was a slow, methodical match with Avalon and Kiss working well together. I think this might have been Avalon’s best singles showing in AEW in a while. We got some shenanigans from Nemeth on the apron but I think it actually worked this time around (mainly because he got his comeuppance!)

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #4: John Silver def. Tony Deppen

My Thoughts: Tony Deppen, former ROH TV Champ, makes his AEW debut and gets schooled by Silver. Deppen got a bit of offence in, which means we didn’t get a total squash match but it might as well have been given how stronger Silver looked!

My Score: 1.5 out of 5

Match #5: Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland def. The Factory (QT Marshall and Nick Comoroto)

My Thoughts: Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland make for a great tag team and they’ve yet to disappoint. And they didn’t here either. Once again QT played the great heel, at one point even strangling Lee with the tag rope! Comoroto was a great foil for Lee, getting manhandled by the limitless one – unlike most of his matches in AEW where he does the manhandling! Meanwhile, Swerve just showed how goddamn great he is with a flurry of offence that got the crowd all riled up. To quote a cliche… this was a solid main event.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Final Verdict: 2.5/5
