“Make America Nazi Free Again.” Just one of the highly emotive straplines used to promote Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus in the past few months and certainly, it feels, the most relevant. You see, whilst it has clearly been in development for some time, MachineGames seem to have captured the current state of world politics absolutely perfectly and […]
In DIGITAL SHORTS we review some of the latest video games that are only available digitally (at least in the UK), in a short-form review format. In this edition we take a look at Maria the Witch, another of the many indie games now making their way to the Nintendo Switch. Looking at the screenshots […]
What will gradually dawn on you about Heroes of the Monkey Tavern is what it doesn’t contain. No item wear; no exterior environments (in fact, very little variation in environments at all); no ammo counters; no gameplay variation; and no real story to speak of. It opens with a static painting of the titular tavern. […]
I’ve been playing WWE video games all my life – from the early days of the NES and the likes of Wrestlemania Challenge, through a myriad of consoles and handhelds, to as recently as WWE 2K16 on the PS4; and in that time the games have changed a LOT. So, after decades of change, why […]
Originally released in 2006 and earning two BAFTA nominations for Best Character and Best Story, Rogue Trooper was one of the undiscovered gems of the PS2 – and for those gamers that played it, it still remains one of the best comic book, nay licensed, games on Sony’s console EVER. Technically (literally, from a technological […]
If there is one thing that will get people’s attention on the Iinternet it’s cute cats. This is why when I loaded up Cat Quest I was a little worried about what I would find. To my surprise what I was presented with was a game that has the right level of nostalgia, and as […]
In DIGITAL SHORTS we review some of the latest video games that are only available digitally (at least in the UK), in a short-form review format. In this edition we take a look at Double Dragon IV, the side-scrolling sequel that has just been ported over to the Nintendo Switch. Double Dragon IV is the […]
With the release of Call of Duty: WWII we spend a lot of time trying to stay alive, be a skillful player and grind our way up to better weapons and scorestreaks. That can be serious stuff, especially once ranked games begin. What about a first-person shooter that just wants to be funny, and just […]
In DIGITAL SHORTS we review some of the latest video games that are only available digitally (at least in the UK), in a short-form review format. In this edition we take a look at Earth Atlantis, a submarine-themed shmup available now on the Nintendo Switch. Shoot ’em-ups have been a mainstay of my gaming existence […]
In Demon Gaze II, players take on the role of a mysterious, amnesiac hero who awakens in the bowels of the autonomous, steampunk inspired city of Asteria. Mysteriously lost in a cellar filled with steaming brass pipes and adorned with valves and levers, he or she has no choice but to follow the only people that […]
If you’ve played the Outcast or Amnesia games then you’ll know all too well the experience of running through corridors escaping an unknown entity. Perception is a similar game, but to complicate things it removes your vision, and pushes you into the world of the unknown. In Perception, you play the role of Cassie, a […]
Set loosely in the world of Steins; Gate (if only because it has the same weird approach to naming), Chaos; Child is the direct sequel of Chaos; Head. The game takes place in a Japanese suburb known as Shibuya and the opening scenes of the story advise the player of a suspiciously localised and terribly powerful earthquake that occurred several […]
In DIGITAL SHORTS we review some of the latest video games that are only available digitally (at least in the UK), in a short-form review format. In this edition we take a look at Revenant Saga, a new RPG available now on the Nintendo Switch. Whilst I’m a huge fan of the Nintendo Switch’s ability […]
The low-fi graphics and simple, intuitive game play make This is the Police an excellent choice for adaptation to Nintendo Switch. The game is good too, with a gripping, mature story about a Police Chief on the verge of retirement and his dealings with the various factions that hold power in the city, all of […]
Following its release around Halloween (surprisingly enough) of 2014, The Evil Within snagged a reasonable number of fans as a result of its visceral horror and engaging story, not to mention it’s association with Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami. This year, The Evil Within 2 returns to plague long suffering protagonist Sebastian Castellano with yet […]
Who’d have thought it? Barely eight months since Breath of the Wild brought us the first game of the year contender, Nintendo has gone and done it again. After the supremely taut, linear design of Super Mario 3D World on Wii U, and the semi-linear lines of the Galaxy (Wii) games, Super Mario Odyssey represents […]
It would seem, given the amount of games hitting the market or announced as “in production”, that the side-scrolling beat ’em-up is currently undergoing something of a resurgence. Back in the era of the SNES and Neo Geo you couldn’t move for such games, but with the advent of 3D graphics these types of games […]
In DIGITAL SHORTS we review some of the latest video games that are only available digitally (at least in the UK), in a short-form review format. In this edition we take a look at Putty Pals, a new indie title from developer Harmonious Games, available now on the Nintendo Switch. Putty Pals is an almost perfect […]
The latest in the long line of Traveller’s Tales tie-ins is this cumbersomely-titled effort, and as gaming experience it’s precisely what you would expect – a fact that brings a hint of comfort and a sprig of joy, but also a sense of laziness, and the nagging feeling that the well-worn LEGO game formula is […]
Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite is the latest in the popular series of crossover beat-em-ups that (unsurprisingly) feature characters from Capcom’s massive catalogue of games and the Marvel universe. Past iterations have featured highly detailed and beautifully animated art, drawn in a two dimensional comic book style to suit the combined cast. The last entry, Marvel vs […]

Imagine Pokemon meets Skylanders… Card Game Thrown in at the deep end, bombarded with instructions on how to play the game from one of the assists on the stand at PLAY […]
The console re-release of an existing mobile game, with added co-op AND “arena” modes – hence the Arena Edition tag – Squareboy vs. Bullies is an 8-bit style old-school side-scrolling beat ’em-up that looks and plays like Double Dragon meets Super Meatboy. The game sees you play as the titular Squareboy who finds himself standing […]
