‘WWE NXT: Revenge – Week Two’ Review

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this week’s review of NXT: Revenge – Week Two, right here on Nerdly. Let’s get straight into it and see what went down on this week’s show!

Match #1: North American Championship – Myles Borne def. Dion Lennox

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

The North American Championship remains with Myles Borne after an unfortunate miscommunication between DarkState’s Dion Lennox and Saquon Shugars. The group looked like they were on the same page early when the trio on the outside distracted Borne and enabled Lennox to take control, but the cracks began to show. Despite cracking Borne on the steel steps and having all the momentum, Shugars called an audible on the outside that doomed his teammate. Shugars hopped on the apron, but Borne wisely sent Lennox into him before hitting a match-ending Borne Again, causing DarkState to fume on the outside.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Match #2: Keanu Carver def. Joe Hendry

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Keanu Carver made a statement in his dominant victory over former NXT Champion Joe Hendry. Hendry did well at first in staving off Carver’s brute force, but it wasn’t long before the newcomer flexed his muscles. The former NXT Champion found himself in a world of trouble as Carver began raining down forearm strikes, forcing the official to call for the bell and declare it a knockout victory.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #3: Speed Championship – Lexis King def. EK Prosper

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

NXT has a new Speed Champion, and it’s none other than Birthright’s Lexis King. The numbers game proved to be too much to overcome as TNA Knockouts World Champion Arianna Grace slapped Prosper, which set him up for a match-ending Coronation from King.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #4: NXT Women’s North American Championship Casket Match – Tatum Paxley def. Blake Monroe

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

NXT Women’s North American Champion Tatum Paxley got payback against Blake Monroe in a thrilling Casket Match. The bitter rivals used not only the casket as a weapon, but also one of Paxley’s signature dollhouses. However, a swift kick from The Glamour sent the champion crashing through it. The action stayed fast-paced as the duo battled inside the casket itself before flying off of it in a scintillating Spanish Fly. Monroe thought she had the match won, but Paxley staved off defeat by jamming Monroe’s fake North American Title between the lid and the base of the casket. A frustrated Glamour pulled Paxley and one of the pillows out, revealing it was filled with diamonds, but Paxley hit Cemetery Drive onto the jewels. One last spinning kick allowed Paxley to slam the lid and retain her championship in an incredible bout.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Match #5: Last Woman Standing Match – Zaria def. Sol Ruca

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

The story of ZaRuca added another incredible chapter as Zaria outlasted Sol Ruca in an unforgettable Last Woman Standing Match. Zaria was relentless, bringing the fight directly to Ruca and even Spearing her through the perch. The two Superstars found themselves perched on the barricade, only for Zaria to hit a devastating F-5 through the announce table. In a moment of desperation, Ruca scaled the perch to try to hit a splash, but Zaria followed and was hit with a Sol Snatcher. After an emotional and dangerous exchange atop the perch, Zaria seemingly begged for forgiveness, and the two embraced. Moments later, however, the Aussie betrayed her and sent her flying off the perch through a table to end the match.

My Score: 4.5 out of 5

Final Verdict: 3.5/5

This second week of NXT: Revenge felt like a show that steadily built momentum as it went along. The opening North American Title match delivered a solid, story-driven contest, while Keanu Carver’s knockout win over Joe Hendry did a great job of establishing him as a serious threat. Lexis King’s Speed Title victory, however, leaned a little too heavily on outside interference and never quite hit the same level as the rest. Things picked up in a big way across the final two matches. The casket match between Tatum Paxley and Blake Monroe was chaotic in all the right ways, blending creativity with brutality, but it was the Last Woman Standing match that truly stole the show. Zaria and Sol Ruca delivered an emotional, hard-hitting main event with a memorable – and ruthless – finish that capped things off perfectly. Overall, a show that started strong and finished stronger, with a standout main event doing the heavy lifting. If that’s Ruca’s last appearance in NXT, given her Raw debut on Monday, it was one hell of a way to go out!
