‘WWE NXT’ Review (Jan 20th 2026)

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this week’s review of NXT, right here on Nerdly. Let’s get straight into it and see what went down on this week’s show!

Match #1: NXT North American Championship – Ethan Page def. Elio LeFleur

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Ethan Page is still the NXT North American Champion, but not without a fight from a debuting Elio LeFleur. The champion dominated the early goings, grounding the French Luchador and keeping him away from the skies where he’s so dangerous. LeFleur finally grabbed the momentum and had the NXT Universe believing he could win, but Page used underhanded tactics and grabbed the challenger’s trunks to retain his title.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Match #2: Shiloh Hill def. Josh Briggs

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Shiloh Hill conquered Josh Briggs to qualify for the NXT Championship Ladder Match on Feb. 3, but he paid a price for it. The two towering Superstars battled to a stalemate before Hill muscled up Briggs for a massive match-ending twisting neckbreaker. After the match, Tony D’Angelo appeared and attacked both Superstars, leaving them down in a crumpled heap.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #3: Vanity Project def. Chase U

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

The Vanity Project picked up their first wins as official NXT Superstars when the duo defeated Chase U in tag team action. Despite a strong performance from Kale Dixon and Uriah Connors, Brad Baylor and Ricky Smokes used their impressive teamwork to score the win.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #4: Sean Legacy def. Eli Knight

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Two of NXT’s newest Superstars battled for a spot in the NXT Championship Ladder Match on Feb. 3, but Sean Legacy punched his ticket. Eli Knight showed out by using his unbelievable athleticism, but Legacy hit an incredible suplex turned neckbreaker to win the match. After the match, D’Angelo returned and once again laid out both competitors.

My Score: 4 out of 5

Match #5: ZaRuca def. WrenQCC and Fatal Influence

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

ZaRuca are No. 1 Contenders to the TNA Knockouts Tag Team Title after a thrilling Triple Threat Tag Team Match. The action was chaotic and fast-paced as NXT Women’s Champion Jacy Jayne made her presence felt by hitting Wren Sinclair with a Rolling Encore. With Evolve Women’s Champion Kendal Grey also taken out, Women’s Speed Champion Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid fell victim to a double Sol Snatcher before Zaria hit an F-5 to pin Reid.

My Score: 4 out of 5

Final Verdict: 3.5/5

This week’s NXT was a solid, quietly effective episode that leaned more into momentum-building than outright spectacle… and that’s not a bad thing! Ethan Page continues to feel like a dependable cornerstone as North American Champion, while the ongoing Ladder Match qualifiers gave the show a clear throughline, with Sean Legacy’s breakout performance standing out as the night’s highlight. The women’s triple threat tag match delivered the chaos and pace you want from that division, and ZaRuca coming out on top feels like the right call. Tony D’Angelo’s repeated post-match ambushes helped tie the show together, even if the trope bordered on overuse by the end. Nothing here screamed “must-see,” but almost everything worked, advanced stories, and kept NXT’s upward momentum ticking along nicely.
