Welcome to this week’s review of NXT, right here on Nerdly. Let’s get straight into it and see what went down on this week’s show!

Match #1: Josh Briggs def. Matt Cardona
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
The towering Josh Briggs picked up a major win on NXT by defeating Matt Cardona in a singles match. Briggs was all over Cardona, even mocking the former WWE Superstar with his signature chant, but Cardona fired back with a counter and a huge dive over the top rope. Cardona even hit Radio Silence after Briggs’ chain was confiscated, but The Man of Mayhem rallied and managed to hit a massive match-ending Big Boot.
My Score: 3 out of 5
Match #2: El Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. def. Lexis King
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide El Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. electrified the NXT Universe with a dazzling win over Lexis King. After the match, NXT North American Champion Ethan Page appeared, prompting Wagner Jr. to challenge him to a Day of the Dead Match at Halloween Havoc.
My Score: 3 out of 5
Match #3: Blake Monroe def. Zaria
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Blake Monroe sent a message to NXT Women’s North American Champion and Women’s Speed Champion Sol Ruca by defeating her best friend, Zaria. Zaria was her usual, dominant self, using her incredible power to keep the dangerous Monroe off of her game. The Glamour introduced a steel chair and was prepared to use it, but Ruca ripped it away from her, and amidst the chaos, Monroe jabbed Zaria with a hairpin before hitting Beauty Shot for the win.
My Score: 3 out of 5
Match #4: Triple Threat Tag Team Match – Chase U vs. The Culling vs. Hank & Tank (No Contest)
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
The Triple Threat Tag Team Match between Chase U, The Culling and former NXT Tag Team Champions Hank & Tank was interrupted by a returning OTM. All three teams were looking to gain momentum in the NXT tag team scene when Bronco Nima and Lucien Price demolished the entire field.
My Score: 2 out of 5
Match #5: Halloween Havoc No. 1 Contender Battle Royal – Winner: Tatum Paxley
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Tatum Paxley is officially headed to NXT Halloween Havoc after winning a Battle Royal to become the No. 1 Contender to the NXT Women’s Championship. 20 Superstars from NXT and TNA made up the field, as they began falling by the wayside one by one over the top rope. The field whittled down to Paxley, Jordynne Grace and Izzi Dame, but Dame’s clothesline backfired and sent both her and The Juggernaut tumbling over the top rope, giving Paxley maybe the biggest win in her career.
My Score: 3.5 out of 5
Final Verdict: 3/5
This week’s NXT was all about momentum heading into Halloween Havoc — a show loaded with action but uneven in pacing. The night kicked off with Josh Briggs vs. Matt Cardona, a surprisingly physical opener that gave Briggs one of his better showings in recent memory. Later, El Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. made a strong debut by defeating Lexis King, immediately adding international star power to the brand. The centerpiece was the 20-woman battle royal to determine the next challenger for Jacy Jayne’s NXT Women’s Title. The match wasn’t without its messy moments, but Tatum Paxley’s win gave fans a fresh contender and some welcome unpredictability. Elsewhere, the tag team division’s triple threat number-one contender bout ended abruptly, sapping some of the night’s energy. Despite a few flat segments and pacing dips, the show did its job. NXT continues to showcase its depth and set up a promising card for Halloween Havoc.
