‘WWE NXT’ Review (Jun 24th 2025)

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this week’s review of NXT, right here on Nerdly. Let’s get straight into it and see what went down on this week’s show!

Match #1: TNA World Championship – Trick Williams def. Josh Briggs

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

The TNA World Title remains with Trick Williams, but he already has his hands full with his next potential challenge. Williams quickly learned that he was in for a fight as his power advantage was non-existent against the hulking Briggs, and the sneaky athleticism fooled the champion as the challenger countered a Powerbomb with a Chokeslam that nearly ended the bout. An incredible exchange of moves saw Briggs knock Williams to the mat, but his Moonsault missed the mark, allowing the champion to hit Trick Shot to win the match.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #2: Je’Von Evans def. Tavion Heights

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Tavion Heights had dreams of breaking off from No Quarter Catch Crew, but his loss to Je’Von Evans means he remains with Charlie Dempsey and Wren Sinclair. The masked Heights was incredibly impressive and tossed The Young OG around the ring with a bevy of suplexes and slams, all while Dempsey looked increasingly concerned at ringside. However, Evans was just too bouncy and hit a remarkable twisting splash off the top rope to pick up the victory.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Match #3: Ricky Saints def. Ashante “Thee” Adonis

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Ricky Saint is back in the win column and his battle with NXT North American Champion Ethan Page is far from over. The action started quick with Saints and Ashante “Thee” Adonis trading serious punches, and it was the brash Adonis that gained the upper hand with his quick-strike offense. Saints displayed incredible fortitude and managed to plant Adonis with a huge Tornado DDT that shook the canvas. A huge Spear gave way to a match-ending Roshambo by Saints, but Page hit the scene and brutally attacked his rival.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #4: NXT Heritage Cup – Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo def. Tony D’Angelo

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

NXT has a new NXT Heritage Cup champion as Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo won the prestigious, vacant cup by defeating Tony D’Angelo. Stacks and D’Angelo have been at odds ever since Lorenzo betrayed The Family at Stand & Deliver, and the animosity followed to this championship matchup. Round One came and went as the two Superstars brawled to a draw, but Round Two belonged to The Don after smashing Stacks on the announce table and hitting him with a Spear. Round Three didn’t see a fall, but Lorenzo stole a pin in Round Four after D’Angelo’s knee gave out. Luca Crusifino came down to support The Don, but his attempt went awry as he seemingly accidentally cracked his friend with a bucket which allowed Stacks to steal the win and the NXT Heritage Cup.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #5: Evolution Eliminator Fatal 4-Way Match – Jordynne Grace def. Lash Legend, Jaida Parker and Izzi Dame

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

The Juggernaut is headed to Evolution as Jordynne Grace won the Evolution Eliminator Fatal 4-Way Match in thrilling fashion. The action was as frenetic as it was explosive as all four Superstars went all out in hopes of earning a championship opportunity. Grace and Parker locked in dueling submissions and began slugging it out while wrenching their opponents, but Legend and Dame showed off their power by standing up and slamming them. Grace showed out by launching all three of her opponents off the top rope with a Superplex, and it led to a chaotic sequence featuring a Hipnotic, a Big Boot and a Codebreaker. The Juggernaut was the last Superstar left standing and hit a devastating Torture Rack Bomb to win the match and punch her ticket to Evolution.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Final Verdict: 3/5

This week’s episode of WWE NXT marked a noticeable improvement over last week’s rather forgettable outing. While the show is still clearly in a holding pattern ahead of The Great American Bash, this episode at least took some meaningful steps forward in building that momentum. Several key storylines saw progression, and there were hints of new feuds taking shape, which helped the show feel more purposeful than recent weeks. The in-ring action was solid across the board. Every match was given adequate time to breathe and tell a story, which in turn allowed the talent to showcase their strengths. While nothing reached the level of must-see, the overall quality was consistent and satisfying. The absence of any substantial development for The D’Angelo Family was a disappointing oversight, especially given how central they’ve been to recent narratives, but that misstep didn’t completely derail the flow of the show. What stood out most was the balance – matches, promos, and segments were paced well, creating a smooth rhythm from start to finish. There’s still some work to do in terms of tightening long-term direction, but this episode showed that NXT hasn’t lost its potential; it just needs the right push.
