‘WWE Smackdown’ Review (Feb 29th 2025)

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this review of this past Friday’s episode of Smackdown, right here on Nerdly. Let’s see what went down on this week’s show!

Match #1: Tiffany Stratton def. Chelsea Green (DQ)

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

In the height of WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton’s matchup against Women’s United States Champion Chelsea Green, Nia Jax and Candice LeRae emerged to attack and Trish Stratus and ringside to bring an early end to the contest by disqualification. After the bell, however, Stratus and Tiffy turned the tables to sent their Elimination Chamber opponents from the ring with great Stratusfaction.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #2: Jacob Fatu def. Andrade

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

The monstrous Jacob Fatu overcame Andrade with an earth-shattering Double Bonce Moonsault to advance to the United States Championship No.1 Contender’s Triple Triple Threat Match later on SmackDown.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #3: The Street Profits vs. Los Garza (No-Contest)

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

WWE Tag Team Champions #DIY, Motor City Machine Guns, and Pretty Deadly get involved prior to The Street Profits match against Los Garza to spark a huge pre-match tag team brawl.

My Score: 0 out of 5

Match #4: LA Knight def. Santos Escobar

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

In the height of the explosive high-stakes showdown, LA Knight hit a BFT on Santos Escobar as his opponent was attacking from the top rope for the three-count. With the victory, The Megastar advanced to the United States Championship No.1 Contender’s Triple Triple Threat Match later on SmackDown against Jacob Fatu and a Superstar still to be determined.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #5: Carmelo Hayes def. Braun Strowman (DQ)

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

After an interfering Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga introduced a steal chair into Braun Strowman’s match against Carmelo Hayes, Him channeled Eddie Guerrero’s “Lie Cheat and Steal” tactics to make it look as if The Monster of All Monsters used the weapon on him in order to get his opponent disqualified. As a result of his controversial victory, Hayes advanced to the United States Championship No.1 Contender’s Triple Triple Threat Match later on SmackDown against Jacob Fatu and LA Knight.

My Score: 1.5 out of 5

Match #6: Liv Morgan, Raquel Rodriguez, and Roxanne Perez def. Bianca Belair, Naomi, and Bayley

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

In the height of a total free-for-all, Roxanne Perez escaped a Bayley-to-Belly attempt from The Role Model to score the huge win with Pop Rox. Whatever momentum Perez gained, however, disappeared in a hurry. Second after the match, Alexa Bliss surprised Roxanne Perez with Sister Abigail to make a sinister statement heading in to Elimination Chamber on The Road to WrestleMania.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #7: LA Knight def. Jacob Fatu and Carmelo Hayes

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Second after Jacob Fatu hit the Double Bonce Moonsault on Carmelo Hayes, LA Knight pulled The Samoan Werewolf from the ring and jumped in to take away the win for himself to become No. 1 contender to United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Final Verdict: 2.5/5

Apart from the main event and the Fartu/Andrade match this was an instantly forgettable episode of Smackdown – too many promos trying to sell Elimination Chamber, poor matches and far too long in between those matches, meant that this PLE go-home show missed the mark. Still, nice to see Andrade get a decent match in!
