‘WWE NXT’ Review (Jan 14th 2025)

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this week’s review of NXT, right here on Nerdly. Let’s get straight into it and see what went down on this week’s show!

Match #1: Shotzi def. Stephanie Vaquer

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Shotzi is officially the No. 1 Contender to Fallon Henley’s title after the Fatal Influence star interfered and cost Stephanie Vaquer in the matchup. Jacy Jayne ran down to the ring where the two Superstars battled, and in the chaos Henley cracked Vaquer with the title, allowing an unaware Shotzi to roll up Vaquer and earn the victory.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #2: Ethan Page def. Dante Chen

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

The arrogant Ethan Page picked up another win as he dispatched Dante Chen with a Twist of Fate.

My Score: 0 out of 5

Match #3: Lash Legend & Jakara Jackson def. Unholy Union

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Incredible tag team action saw The Meta-Girls defeat Isla Dawn and Alba Fyre to become the new No. 1 Contenders to Bianca Belair and Naomi’s titles. The Unholy Union was in full control, but Legend sneakily tagged in and that move allowed the duo to hit a Wheelbarrow Cutter combo to win the match.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #4: Cora Jade def. Kelani Jordan

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Cora Jade stole a victory over Kelani Jordan as Jordan’s slide in NXT continues after she lost the NXT Women’s North American Championship. Jordan was not her typical self and was competing much more aggressively, but it cost her as Jade raked her eyes and hit a huge DDT to win the bout.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #5: NXT Tag Team Championship – Nathan Frazer & Axiom def. OTM

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

The NXT Tag Team Title remains with Nathan Frazer and Axiom as they took down a very game Bronco Nima and Lucien Price as WWE Tag Team Champion #DIY looked down from their perch. The challengers were up for the challenge with Price at one point demolishing Axiom with a huge lariat. However, the champions used their speed advantage to rally as Frazer hit a huge Frog Splash through the announce table while Axiom hit a top rope Spanish Fly followed by a Golden Ratio to win the match.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Final Verdict: 3/5

A solid, if unremarkable, episode of NXT this week. Each and every match delivered apart from that crappy squash match. It’s just a shame that there was nothing truly exciting on this show, though it did feel like this episode was all about setting up storylines and feuds heading towards Vengeance Day. Which I can’t complain about.
