‘WWE Smackdown’ Review (Oct 18th 2024)
Welcome to this review of this past Friday’s episode of Smackdown, right here on Nerdly. Let’s see what went down on this week’s show…

Match #1: WWE Tag Team Title No. 1 Contender’s Tournament – #DIY def. The Street Profits & Pretty Deadly
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
A chance to face The Bloodline for the WWE Tag Team Title began tonight as #DIY, The Street Profits and Pretty Deadly combined in a Triple Threat Tag Team Match. The Street Profits looked ready to seal the deal with an epic Blockbuster but #DIY connected with Meeting in the Middle on Kit Wilson. At the same time, Montez Ford covered Elton Prince while Tomasso Ciampa covered Wilson. After some confusion, the referee announced #DIY as the winners.
My Score: 2.5 out of 5
Match #2: Lash Legend def. Piper Niven
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Lash Legend made her singles debut on SmackDown as she took on the awesomely powerful Piper Niven. Legend stunned Niven and the WWE Universe as she caught Niven and dropped her with a body slam. Even after Chelsea Green attempted to interfere in the match, Legend brushed it off and hit Niven with an awesome power move to win the match.
My Score: 2 out of 5
Match #3:WWE Tag Team Title No. 1 Contender’s Tournament – Motor City Machine Guns def. A-Town Down Under & Los Garza
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin of the Motor City Machine Guns made their WWE debut as they looked to progress in the WWE Tag Team Title No. 1 Contender’s Tournament. The tag team pioneers looked great in their debut, wowing the crowd with their impressive tag team offense. After a flurry of kicks, the Motor City Machine Guns hit Angel with a beautiful assisted top-rope splash to make their debut a winning one.
My Score: 2.5 out of 5
Match #4: Nia Jax & Candice LeRae def. Bayley & Naomi
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Subbing in for an ill Tiffany Stratton, WWE Women’s Speed Champion Candice LeRae teamed with WWE Women’s Champion Nia Jax to take on Naomi and Bayley. Bayley and Naomi were in sync for most of the match, as they each took out Jax and LeRae with individual attacks. As Bayley was getting LeRae back in the ring, Indi Hartwell attacked The Role Model behind the referee’s back, allowing The Poison Pixie to hit a springboard moonsault to get the upset win.
My Score: 2 out of 5
Final Verdict: 2/5
Another mundane episode of Smackdown this week. So mundane that the WWE debut of the Motor City Machine Guns, YES, the Motor City Machine Guns, felt like a goddamn afterthought! The tag team tournament stuff kept this entire show from being an utter dud. Unfortunately, the women’s wrestling, frankly, poorly booked and poorly performed!
