‘TNA Wrestling’ Review (Aug 15th 2024)

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this week’s review of TNA Wrestling, Let’s get straight into the review and see what went down on the show…

Match #1: Riley Osborne def. Chris Bey and John Skyler

The following is courtesy of tnawrestling.com:

Before the match begins, Frankie Kazarian interrupts and joins commentary, announcing that he is entering the Ultimate X qualifiers with the intent to win and immediately use Option C for a shot at the TNA World Championship. The match kicks off with NXT’s Riley Osborne showcasing his athleticism, hitting an impressive hurricanrana on Chris Bey, only to be cut off by Skyler. Chris Bey hits the “Art of Finesse,” but Skyler throws him into the post and tries to steal the win. However, Osborne kicks out and then hits a huge Shooting Star Press to win the match.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #2: Gisele Shaw def. Tasha Steelz

The following is courtesy of tnawrestling.com:

Minutes into the match, Tasha does what she does best and tries to use a wrench from under the ring, but the added referee stops her. After getting caught cheating again, Tasha Steelz gets hit with the Denouement Knee Strike from Shaw, suffering defeat!

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #3: Moose def. Mike Santana

The following is courtesy of tnawrestling.com:

The System takes out Mike Santana and leaves him laying in the back right before his match with Moose is about to start. Against his better judgment, Santana comes down to the ring and lays out all members of The System in the process, only to be blindsided from behind by Moose after Alisha Edwards distracts him. Santana won’t back down from Moose, hitting him with the Rolling Buck 50 and Spin The Block. Somehow Moose kicks out. Ultimately, the damage from the post-match attack and a vicious Spear from Moose keep Santana down for the three-count.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #4: Jason Hotch def. Rich Swann and Ace Austin

The following is courtesy of tnawrestling.com:

The match starts with excitement right out of the gate as all three men jockey for position. They are evenly matched throughout, with Swann hitting a huge front flip dive. After some back-and-forth, Swann gets thrown into AJ Francis at the commentary table, who gets up and drops Ace Austin at ringside, only to be taken out by Chris Bey with a dive. Everything looked set for Ace Austin to win with “The Fold,” but John Skyler caused a distraction, setting Jason Hotch up to snag the victory!

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #5: TNA World Championship Match – Josh Alexander vs. Nic Nemeth (Draw)

The following is courtesy of tnawrestling.com:

Josh Alexander takes control of the match from the jump. Nemeth finds small openings but continues to be beaten down by “The Wanted Man.” Nemeth eventually reverses multiple German suplexes into one of his own, following up with multiple elbow drops, but Josh kicks out. The match ends in a draw when both Nemeth and Alexander exchange pins, and Nemeth lands “Danger Zone,” seemingly about to win by pinfall, but the clock strikes 30 minutes! Devastated, Nemeth asks for five more minutes, but Josh Alexander refuses and bows out. Nemeth, frustrated, throws Josh back into the ring, but he is met with a low blow from Josh, who then demands the five minutes. The referees refuse, and Josh stands tall to a field of boos before walking out of the iMPACT Zone.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Final Verdict: 3/5

Another week of TNA that saw good in-ring action tarnished by WWE-wannabe storytelling. It does seem, that the new management of TNA are striving for WWE-like programming, which didn’t really go down that well when they tried it under Dixie Carter during the Hogan years but hey, what do I know right? I’m just a stooge who though, before Scott D-Amore was laid off, that TnA was truly vying to be THE show to watch on a weekly basis. But, like WWE, it’s starting to feel like you should skip watching the show and just watch match highlights on social media or YouTube. Cut out all the crap that comes with the good wrestling in TNA these days. Yes, the show does still get a decent score from me, but that is for the wrestling and JUST the wrestling!
