‘WWE NXT’ Review (Jul 16th 2024)
Welcome to this week’s review of NXT, right here on Nerdly. Let’s get straight into it and see what went down in this episode…

Match #1: The Rascalz def. Gallus
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Wes Lee, Trey Miguel and Zach Wentz were victorious in their first match together in NXT, taking down Gallus in Six-Man Tag Team action. The speedy Rascalz kept Gallus off-balance to begin the match, but the power of Joe Coffey, Mark Coffey and Wolfgang leveled the playing field. Out of nowhere, Vic Joseph innocuously said Joe Hendry’s name and he appeared, much to the delight of the NXT Universe, and the TNA star joined the NXT commentary team for the match. When the action continued, Lee used a huge stomp from the top rope to score the win.
My Score: 4 out of 5
Match #2: Je’Von Evans def. Brooks Jensen
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
The Young OG is back in the win column after defeating Brooks Jensen in singles action. Je’Von Evans was plenty bouncy against Jensen, using his unique offense to take control, highlighted by a springboard moonsault and a flying kick. Jensen used his new look and new demeanor to torment Evans, but Shawn Spears appeared at ringside and despite Josh Briggs’ pleas, Jensen took too much time and Evans flew over the top rope and took him out. Evans scaled the ropes and his an incredible flying cutter to win the match, but Jensen wasn’t done as he attacked The Young OG after the bout.
My Score: 3 out of 5
Match #3: NXT Championship – Ethan Page def. Dante Chen
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Ethan Page put the NXT Title on the line against Dante Chen and despite coming out victorious, the champion got a bigger fight than he expected. Chen had an initial flurry and nearly won the bout thanks to a quartet of sneaky pinfall attempts, but it wasn’t enough to shock the NXT Universe. Page caught Chen with a big boot and followed it up with an Ego’s Edge to win the match and retain his title. After the match, Oro Mensah appeared and leveled the champion, letting it be known that he is not finished with the Superstar who injured Noam Dar.
My Score: 3 out of 5
Match #4: Tatum Paxley def. Izzi Dame
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
The strangeness of Tatum Paxley continues as she defeated Izzi Dame and had an interesting moment with Wendy Choo. Dame was furious after weeks of odd behavior from Paxley, and tortured her lower back until the demented Choo came to the ring. Paxley weathered the storm and just one mistake from The Great Dame allowed Paxley to hit the Psycho Trap to win the match. After the match, Choo handed Paxley the body of a doll that Paxley beheaded last week, and with a twisted smile on her face, Paxley reattached the head.
My Score: 2.5 out of 5
Match #5: Lola Vice def. Jacy Jayne
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Lola Vice picked up a huge victory on her journey back to the NXT Women’s Title picture, but also picked up some key allies along the way. Jacy Jayne was out to prove that Vice was nothing more than an over hyped rookie, but that backfired when Vice cleaned her clock with one devastating spinning backfist. After the match, Fallon Henley and Jazmyn Nyx tried to attack Vice, but Sol Ruca and Karmen Petrovic hit the ring to even the odds.
My Score: 2.5 out of 5
Match #6: The OC def. OTM
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
After weeks of animosity, The OC finally conquered OTM in a back and forth Six-Person Tag Team Match. It was an all out fight between all six Superstars with Jaida Parker bringing the fight right to Michin, hitting her signature Teardrop in the corner. After Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson battled with Bronco Nima and Lucien Price, Michin took matters into her own hands and hit Nima with a huge kick before nailing Parker with a dive to the outside. The OC followed that up with a Magic Killer and that can only be described as “Too Sweet” to win the match for their team.
My Score: 2.5 out of 5
Match #7: NXT North American Championship – Oba Femi def. Duke Hudson
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
After another grueling NXT North American Title Match, Oba Femi proved that he is truly is backed by destiny. The monstrous Femi looked unstoppable early as he tossed around The Chase U MVP with ease. Duke Hudson rallied in a major way and nearly had the match won on several occasions, including after a powerbomb from the top rope. The champion proved to be more than formidable as he dumped Hudson onto the announce table and threw him back into the ring for a Fall From Grace.
My Score: 3.5 out of 5
Final Verdict: 3.5/5
This week’s episode of NXT opened super-strong, with a fantastic match that showcased not only NXT talent but TNA talent too – and reminded the audience what we’ve missed not having the Rascalz as a trios team for the past 4 years! A lot of the other matches on the show were OK but at least, unlike the main roster shows, we actually get wrestling action on NXT! Plus things picked up with the great main event. Who knew Oba Femi would be such a fantastic champ for the NXT men’s division?! He is, that’s for sure!
