‘WWE NXT’ Review (Jul 2nd 2024)

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this week’s review of NXT, right here on Nerdly. Let’s get straight into it and see what went down in this episode…

Match #1: Street Fight – Jaida Parker def. Michin

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Michin and Jaida Parker were ready for war as they both arrived with a baseball bat and and a trash can full of weapons, respectively. Sporting an old school NXT look, Michin whipped some sense into the young Parker using her belt and other various weapons, but Parker was up to the challenge and responded with equal intensity. Michin went for broke on her dive to the outside but it backfired as she face planted on several steel chairs. Parker used the momentum to dump Michin onto dozens of screws and lug nuts, and hit her opponent with a devastating Hipnotic through the NXT wall. One more Hipnotic inside the ring sealed the deal as Ms. Parker secured her biggest NXT win to date.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Match #2: New Catch Republic def. Hank Walker & Tank Ledger

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Hank Walker and Tank Ledger were looking to prove themselves and they did just that despite coming up just short against New Catch Republic. The experience that Tyler Bate and Pete Dunne have was evident as they managed to keep their larger opponents off-balance, and even matched their strength through the use of leverage and sheer mat skills. Hank and Tank rallied in a major way and our of pure adrenaline nearly knocked off the decorated Bate and Dunne, but they just weren’t ready yet. Bate finally scaled the top rope and one twisting splash gave them a much more difficult victory than they probably expected.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Match #3: Izzi Dame def. Brinley Reece

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Izzi Dame brought her A-game and looked as impressive as ever as she defeated Brinley Reece in a hotly contested singles match. Their battle spilled to the outside when out of nowhere, Tatum Paxley appeared and startled Dame. One I-Driver later gave Dame the win, only for Paxley to get in the ring and accidentally chase her off.

My Score: 0 out of 5

Match #4: Oro Mensah def. Myles Borne

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

The Main Man of The Meta-Four picked up a major win as he defeated Myles Borne of No Quarter Catch Crew. Oro Mensah took out some frustration on the blue chip Borne, using a huge moonsault to stagger the young Superstar. Damon Kemp hatched a plan to help Borne using brass knuckles, but it backfired as it took to long and allowed Mensah to hit a huge win to score the win.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #5: Wendy Choo def. Carlee Bright

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

The Wendy Choo NXT once knew is long gone and the new one is here to stay, especially after a terrifying victory over Carlee Bright. The demented Choo dominated the young Bright, although the newcomer did attempt a mid-match rally using her former cheerleader skills. Those skills were not enough as the zombified Choo hit a devastating lariat and locked in a sleeper hold to force Bright to tap out.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #6: Jazmyn Nyx def. Karmen Petrovic

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Jazmyn Nyx continues to impress just months into her career as she put down Karmen Petrovic in impressive fashion. Petrovic had the advantage early, but Jacy Jayne inserted herself and distracted the karate expert, allowing her partner Nyx to gain control. Jayne once again got involved, forcing Petrovic to stomp on her hand, but Nyx cracked her with a Pele Kick to get the victory.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Final Verdict: 2.5/5

Man, what happened here? This week’s NXT opened so strong, with two great matches back to back and then… Pow! We get a squash match and the whole show falls apart, delivering a series of average matches for the rest of the two-hour card. Weak stuff.
