‘Friday Night Smackdown’ Review (Jun 28th 2024)

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this review of this past Friday’s episode of Friday Night Smackdown, right here on Nerdly. Let’s see what went down on this week’s show!

Match #1: Triple Threat Women’s Money in the Bank Qualifying Match – Tiffany Stratton def. Jade Cargill and Candice LeRae

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Toronto will operate on “Tiffy Time” as Tiffany Stratton punched her ticket to Money in the Bank by defeating Jade Cargill and Candice LeRae in a Triple Threat Match thanks to an assist from her new friend, Nia Jax. Stratton and LeRae quickly forged a partnership against the powerful Cargill, but it was only a matter of time before The Storm cleaned house against her opponents. Jax’s presence at ringside drew the ire of Bianca Belair, but Indi Hartwell appeared during the chaos and attacked Cargill. However, Hartwell’s interference didn’t help LeRae. The Poison Pixie’s attempt at a moonsault went awry, and Stratton showed her how it was done as one Prettiest Moonsault Ever secured her victory.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #2: Triple Threat Men’s Money in the Bank Qualifying Match – LA Knight def. Logan Paul and Santos Escobar

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

LA Knight is headed to Money in the Bank after defeating United States Champion Logan Paul and Santos Escobar in a Triple Threat Match while receiving a much-needed assist from New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson. The action was frenetic as all three Superstars came seconds away from qualifying, but everything changed when Paul beckoned Indiana Pacers star guard Tyrese Haliburton to bring him his signature brass knuckles. Brunson was having none of it and stopped his fellow NBA star, allowing Knight enough time to counter Paul and win the match.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #3: Triple Threat Women’s Money in the Bank Qualifying Match – Naomi def. Indi Hartwell and Blair Davenport

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Toronto better be prepared to Feel the Glow as Naomi is headed to Money in the Bank after defeating Indi Hartwell and Blair Davenport in a Triple Threat Qualifying Match. The alliance between Hartwell and Davenport didn’t last long, but they took out Naomi for a time, only to turn against each other just moments later. Davenport seemed to be in a good position, but she was flung into the steps by Hartwell, only for Jade Cargill to appear and get retribution against the Superstar that cost her earlier in the night. Naomi used the assist to pick up the win and qualify for the Money in the Bank Ladder Match.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Final Verdict: 2.5/5

What a crock of crap! 3 matches on a two-hour show, with only one of those really delivering the goods.  Just when I was praising WWE and talking about how the MITB tournament matches were making their shows more interesting, along comes this waster of time. Really. It seems the focus this episode was all back on The Bloodline, and those who oppose it. However, that should not be a replacement for good and plentiful matches – which this week’s show clearly didn’t understand. OK, OK, so seeing Paul Heyman getting his arse kicked at the end of the show was shocking but that stuff cannot and should not be at the expense of a main event.
