‘Friday Night Smackdown’ Review (Apr 19th 2024)

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this review of this past Friday’s episode of Friday Night Smackdown, right here on Nerdly. Let’s see what went down on this week’s show!

Match #1: AJ Styles def. LA Knight

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Thanks to a thumb to the eye and the Phenomenal Forearm, AJ Styles overcame LA Knight in a WrestleMania rematch and earned the right to challenge Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at Backlash France.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #2: Fatal 4-Way Tag Team Match – Winners: Street Profits

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

In an out-of-control Fatal 4-Way Tag Team showdown, Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford hit Revolution on Angel to overcome New Catch Republic, Legado del Fantasma and The Authors of Pain and become the No. 1 Contenders to WWE Tag Team Champions Austin Theory and Grayson Waller.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #3: Santos Escobar def. Carlito

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

When Zelina Vega and Elektra Lopez began to brawl at ringside, the distraction allowed the nefarious Santos Escobar to hurl The LWO’s Carlito into the ring post and hit the Phantom Driver for the three-count.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #4: WWE Women’s Championship – Bayley def. Naomi (No Contest)

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Before a winner could emerge in the explosive WWE Women’s Championship Match pitting Bayley against Naomi, Tiffany Stratton suddenly launched an aggressive sneak attack inside and outside the ring that culminated in a Prettiest Moonsault Ever on both Superstars at the same time. Stratton made a strong statement in the WWE Women’s Championship picture, and that statement is that it’s Tiffy Time!

My Score: 3 out of 5

Final Verdict: 3/5

A decent but unremarkable episode of Smackdown that laid the groundwork for the Bloodline going forward and gave us a handful of good matches – including the opener. Shame the main event had to be spoilt by interference though.
