‘WWE NXT’ Review (Apr 9th 2024)

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this week’s review of NXT, right here on Nerdly. Let’s get straight into it and see what went down in this episode…

Match #1: Kiana James & Izzi Dame def. Fallon Henley & Kelani Jordan

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Fallon Henley and Kelani Jordan paired up once again to take on the conniving Kiana James and Izzi Dame in tag team action after the four Superstars clashed at Stand & Deliver. Henley and Jordan rode that momentum from Saturday afternoon early on, but the size and strength of Dame flipped the script and allowed herself and Kiana to gain full control. Jordan ended up finding herself in the cross hairs of Dame, but Henley saved her from a big boot, however it allowed James to hit 401K to score the victory for her team.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #2: Je’Von Evans def. SCRYPTS

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

The NXT debut of Je’Von couldn’t have gone better as the NXT rookie dazzled in his action inside the ring against SCRYPTS. The two high-flyers took turns trying to one-up each other, but Evans middle rope cutter and flying splash over the top rope proved that he is the standard when it comes to the skies. SCRYPTS did everything he could, but it was Evans’ night as the rookie hit a remarkable springboard twisting splash to start his NXT career with a bang.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #3: NXT Women’s Championship – Roxanne Perez def. Natalya

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Natalya was on a mission to win the one title that’s eluded her in WWE, but the NXT Women’s Championship remains with Roxanne Perez after a hard fought battle. The veteran Natalya was her usual savvy self, locking in several submissions and even finding counters for the champion’s crossface and Pop Rox. Natalya later managed to put Perez in the Sharpshooter, but Perez found the ropes to break it. Out of nowhere, Lola Vice appeared and exacted her own payback on Natalya, allowing Perez to retain her title.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Match #4: The Family def. No Quarter Catch Crew

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo and Luca Crusifino honored The Family by defeating Myles Borne and Damon Kemp of No Quarter Catch Crew. Stacks and Crusifino showed incredible chemistry, but the ruthlessness of Borne and Kemp made them more than formidable opponents. A frustrated Dempsey on the outside tried to interfere, but Stacks and Crusifino teamed up for a devastating flapjack codebreaker to win the bout.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #5: Jaida Parker def. Brinley Reece

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Ms. Parker showed up and showed out as Jaida Parker continues to impress as she defeated Brinley Reece in impressive fashion. Reece brought her Brin Active lifestyle to the ring, but the power of Parker allowed her to toss the energetic Superstar all around the ring. The fitness enthusiast tried her best, but one devastating hip check gave Parker the statement victory.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #6: NXT Tag Team Championship – Axiom & Nathan Frazer def. Bron Breakker & Baron Corbin

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Axiom and Nathan Frazer avenged their Stand & Deliver loss by dethroning Bron Breakker and Baron Corbin to become the new NXT Tag Team Champions. Speed met power when the two teams clashed as Breakker and Corbin downed their aerial opponents, but Axiom and Frazer refused to quit. The Wolfdogs had the match seemingly won on multiple occasions, but Frazer’s counter on Breakker’s spear changed the complexion of the match. Breakker proceeded to get knocked out of the ring, leaving Frazer an opening to hit a Phoenix Splash to give him and Axiom their first taste of NXT gold. After the match, AOP appeared and laid out the new champions.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Final Verdict: 3/5

NXT continues its winning streak and has, as it did the week before Stand and Deliver, delivered some great matches once again. Great to see Natalya battle for the NXT women’s title and she really managed to get the best out of Roxanne Perez. And speaking of getting the best out of people, Corbin and Breakker really elevated the tag division (and that’s not something I thought I’d say about Corbin) and the main event was a great passing of the torch… It will be interesting to see what happens to Corbin now that Breakker is heading to the main roster. Whilst not all of this week’s matches worked, this was still another great week for NXT.
