‘WWE NXT’ Review (Feb 27th 2024)
Welcome to this week’s review of NXT, right here on Nerdly. Let’s get straight into it and see what went down in this episode…
Match #1: Kiana James def. Kelani Jordan
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Kiana James is running roughshod over the NXT women’s division with Kelani Jordan being her latest victim inside the ring. Jordan was unfazed by the experience of James and the threat of Izzi Dame on the outside as she even hit a picture-perfect moonsault to the outside to take them both out. The numbers game proved to be too much for James to overcome as Dame knocked her off the apron when the referee was distracted, allowing James to hit Dealbreaker and pick up the win.
My Score: 2.5 out of 5
Match #2: Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson def. Edris Enofè & Malik Blade
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson made a statement in their NXT debut as they destroyed the team of Edris Enofè & Malik Blade in tag team action. Blade and Enofè used their speed to catch The Good Brothers off guard early, but before long, Gallows and Anderson took control thanks to their power advantage and years of experience. Gallows managed to neautralize Blade, leaving Enofè wide open for a Magic Killer to deliver them the win.
My Score: 2.5 out of 5
Match #3: Roxanne Perez def. Jakara Jackson
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Still frustrated over her spot in the NXT hierarchy, Roxanne Perez made a statement by submitting a very game Jakara Jackson of The Meta-Four. Perez was all over Jackson, but her attempt at a Pop Rox was thwarted by Lash Legend, prompting the official to eject The Boujee Bully from ringside. With Jackson by herself, The Prodigy managed to lock in a crossface and force the Meta-Four member to tap out.
My Score: 2 out of 5
Match #4: Dijak def. Luca Crusifino
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
A dominant Dijak delivered some hard justice to NXT’s resident legal expert, Luca Crusifino, but he still has a major Joe Gacy problem. Crusifino put up a valiant effort, but Dijak was too strong and too powerful and won the match via a Feast Your Eyes. After the match, a deranged and straitjacket-clad Gacy came down to the ring and mercilessly attacked Dijak.
My Score: 2 out of 5
Match #5: Von Wagner def. Lexis King
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
The gargantuan Von Wagner defended Mr. Stone’s honor as he took down the foul-mouthed Lexis King in singles action. King was in control but became too focused on Stone, allowing Wagner to use his weight to roll him and pick up the win. After the match, a furious King attacked Wagner and hit Stone with a brutal Coronation.
My Score: 2 out of 5
Match #6: Jaida Parker def. Gigi Dolin
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Jaida Parker continues to impress in her rookie campaign as she defeated the veteran Gigi Dolin without controversy. Dolin was all over her opponent early but Parker became relentless, fighting back at each shot that Dolin delivered. Arianna Grace made her way to the ring demanding that both Superstars stop fighting, but amidst the distraction, Parker cracked Dolin with a devastating forearm to win the bout.
My Score: 2 out of 5
Match #7: NXT Heritage Cup – Charlie Dempsey def. Noam Dar
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
The NXT Heritage Cup officially belongs to the No Quarter Catch Crew as Charlie Dempsey dethroned Noam Dar to win the prized trophy. The first round belonged to Dempsey as he showed off his technical prowess by pulling off an innovative backslide. The second and third rounds came and went without a fall, but round four went the way of the champion as Dar hit a Novaroller to tie the match at one apiece. In the deciding round, Dempsey conquered the champion after his teammates took out Mensah and distracted Dar long enough for Dempsey to hit a bridge suplex for the win.
My Score: 3.5 out of 5
News of the Night:
- Shawn Spears returned to NXT, attacking Ridge Holland
Final Verdict: 2.5/5
An improvement over the past couple of weeks, mainly thanks to the appearance of Shawn Spears and THAT main event – which saw Noam Dar finally drop his title, to Charlie Dempsey no less… And yes, we CAN scream nepotism for that result or we can just roll with it and hope that we see the pair go at it again in a rematch (fingers crossed). Otherwise the rest of the matches on this card we decidedly average. If you can, I’d recommend watching the highlights of those and just check out the aforementioned main event.
