‘TNA Wrestling’ Review (Feb 22nd 2024)
Welcome to this week’s review of TNA Wrestling, the latest episode under the return of the TNA branding! Let’s get into the review and see what went down…
Match #1: Chris Sabin def. Jason Hotch
The following is courtesy of tnawrestling.com:
Before Chris Sabin defends the X-Division Title against Mustafa Ali at No Surrender, he looks to teach Jason Hotch a lesson tonight! The fight spills to the outside where Hotch inadvertently chops the steel ring post. Sabin soars with a top rope crossbody but Hotch counters into a pin attempt for two. Hotch hits a rolling neckbreaker for another near fall. Sabin builds momentum with a back body drop, followed by a tornado DDT. Hotch counters the Cradle Shock into a Chaos Theory suplex. Hotch distracts the referee while Skyler attacks Sabin on the outside. Hotch dives through the ropes but accidently collides with his partner. Sabin puts Hotch away with the Cradle Shock.
My Score: 3 out of 5
Match #2: Simon Gotch def. Jack Price
The following is courtesy of tnawrestling.com:
As Simon Gotch prepares to renew hostilities with Josh Alexander tomorrow night at No Surrender, he’s in action against Jack Price! As the match begins, Josh Alexander joins Tom Hannifan and Matthew Rehwoldt on commentary but Hannifan reminds him that there is a no-contact clause between him and Gotch tonight. Gotch hits a running dropkick, sending Price toppling to the floor. Back in the ring, Gotch spikes him with a Gotch Piledriver, then locks in a submission to score the dominant victory.
My Score: 0 out of 5
Match #3: Steve Maclin def. Trent Seven
The following is courtesy of tnawrestling.com:
Trent Seven didn’t take kindly to Steve Maclin’s blindside attack on Nic Nemeth at a recent World Wrestling Council event in Puerto Rico – tonight they face off one-on-one! Maclin distracts the referee, allowing the Rascalz to assault Seven on the outside. Maclin whips him face-first into the steel ring post, then delivers a back suplex on the apron. Seven tries to build momentum but Maclin shuts him down with a running clothesline. Seven creates some much-needed separation with a top rope Superplex. Bailey neutralizes the Rascalz at ringside before Seven soars from the top to take out everyone. Back in the ring, Seven can’t put Maclin away following the Seven Star Lariat. The Rascalz provide another distraction and this time, it gets Seven Caught in the Crosshairs of Maclin. Maclin hits the KIA to win.
My Score: 3 out of 5
Match #4: Eric Young def. Big Damo
The following is courtesy of tnawrestling.com:
Eric Young must battle his former friend and stablemate, Big Damo. Frankie Kazarian watches on from the top of the stage. Young drops Damo with a modified Death Valley Driver for two. Damo swats Young out of mid-air, then drops him with an elbow. Young picks him off the top with a thunderous Superplex. Young connects with the Piledriver to win.
My Score: 2 out of 5
Match #5: Ash By Elegance def. Savannah Thorne
The following is courtesy of tnawrestling.com:
Ash By Elegance makes her highly-anticipated in-ring debut against Savannah Thorne! Ash tells Thorne to kiss her hand, then decks her with a clothesline. Ash is aggressive from the opening bell as she pummels Thorne in the corner. Ash hits her signature handspring back elbow, followed by Rarified Air to win.
My Score: 0 out of 5
Match #6: The System (Moose, Brian Myers & Eddie Edwards) def. Alex Shelley, KUSHIDA & Kevin Knight
The following is courtesy of tnawrestling.com:
Before Moose defends the TNA World Title against Alex Shelley in the first-ever No Surrender Rules match, momentum is up for grabs in this colossal six-man tag team showdown! Myers delivers a cheap shot to KUSHIDA, allowing Moose to knock him off the apron with a big boot. Moose dropkicks KUSHIDA as The System cuts off the ring and begins to wear him down. KUSHIDA uses his quickness to evade The System’s attacks but just as he’s about to make the tag, Myers and Edwards pull Shelley and Knight off the apron. Moments later, KUSHIDA creates separation with a Tanaka Punch to Moose, allowing him to tag in Shelley. The pace quickens as Shelley locks in the Border City Stretch on Myers. Alisha distracts the referee as Edwards breaks the submission. KUSHIDA soars with an assisted top rope Moonsault to Edwards. Knight picks Moose off the top with a head scissors. Knight counters a powerbomb from Moose into a Hurricanrana on the ramp. Knight launches himself off the back of KUSHIDA to wipe out The System on the floor. Alisha provides another distraction as she gets up on the apron. Moose takes advantage, spearing Knight to score the victory.
My Score: 4 out of 5
Final Verdict: 3.5/5
This week’s TNA felt the most “sports entertainment” episode EVER. Two squash matches, a bunch of average, yet good, matches for the rest of the show and everything culminating in a fantastic main event. And it was THAT main event that made this week’s show. Hopefully this was just a lull before this week’s PPV, No Surrender.
