‘Friday Night Smackdown’ Review (Feb 9th 2024)

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this review of this past Friday’s episode of Friday Night Smackdown, right here on Nerdly. Let’s see what went down on this week’s show!

Match #1: Drew McIntyre def. AJ Styles

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

After a confrontation at ringside, LA Knight distracted the official as AJ Styles was looking to get the three-count on Drew McIntyre. When The Phenomenal One turned to knock the interfering Knight off the apron, McIntyre used the distraction to hit the Claymore Kick for the win. As a result, McIntyre became one of six Superstars that will battle inside the Elimination Chamber for the right to challenge World Heavyweight Champion Seth “Freakin” Rollins at WrestleMania.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #2: Bianca Belair def. Michin

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

After putting a stop to Michin’s Styles Clash attempt, Bianca Belair hit the K.O.D. on her opponent to score a huge victory. Thus, The EST of WWE will step into the Elimination Chamber to attempt to earn the right to challenge the Women’s World Champion at WrestleMania.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #3: Pete Dunne & Tyler Bate def. #DIY

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

In the final moments of an incredible fast-paced showdown, Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate overcame Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano thanks to The BrusierWeight’s earth-shattering Bitter End. Bate and Dunne will challenge Finn Bálor and Damian Priest for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship at WWE Elimination Chamber in Perth.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Match #4: Randy Orton def. Sami Zayn

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Sam Zayn looked to be closing in on a victory when The Viper struck with an RKO out of nowhere to give him the win and ensure that he will be one of six Superstars battling inside the Elimination Chamber for the right to challenge World Heavyweight Champion Seth “Freakin” Rollins at WrestleMania.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Final Verdict: 3.5/5

Well, well, this was a pretty good episode of Smackdown. From the promos to the in-ring action, it felt like everything this week gelled. Honestly, I really enjoyed that opening speech by Triple H – from a storytelling standpoint it all came across as very combative and thus very important; and who doesn’t love to see someone take The Rock’s own words and spin them against him?! In-ring wise, the matches were all good and did a great job of selling the importance of the upcoming Elimination Chamber PPV and keeping feuds going…
