‘TNA Wrestling’ Review (Feb 8th 2024)

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this week’s review of TNA Wrestling, the latest episode under the return of the TNA branding! Let’s get into the review and see what went down…

Match #1: Chris Sabin def. John Skyler

The following is courtesy of tnawrestling.com:

Chris Sabin looks to humble John Skyler in tonight’s opening contest! As Sabin is making his entrance, we learn that this match has been sponsored and presented by Sabin’s X-Division Title challenger at No Surrender, Mustafa Ali. Hotch distracts Sabin at ringside, allowing Skyler to send him crashing into the steel ring steps. Sabin creates separation with a German suplex, then builds momentum with a DDT. Sabin hits a running kick for two. Hotch trips up Sabin from the outside but the follow-up spear from Skyler is not enough to keep him down. Sabin hits the Cradle Shock to win.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #2: Tasha Steelz def. Xia Brookside

The following is courtesy of tnawrestling.com:

After Xia Brookside defeated Tasha Steelz in her TNA singles debut, Steelz confronted Brookside during a sit-down interview with Tom Hannifan. The two Knockouts clash in a heated rematch right now! Brookside counters a pump kick, then hits Broken Wings in the corner. Brookside connects with a running neckbreaker for two. Steelz avoids the Brooksie Bomb, then rolls up Brookside with a handful of tights to win.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #3: Zachary Wentz def. Mike Bailey

The following is courtesy of tnawrestling.com:

Mike Bailey locks up with Zachary Wentz of the Rascalz following their altercation last week! Trey Miguel gets up on the apron, allowing Wentz to gain control off the distraction. Wentz has the referee’s attention as Miguel delivers a cheap shot from the outside. Bailey turns the tide with a springboard Moonsault to the outside. Wentz hits a vertical suplex on the floor to regain control. Back in the ring, Bailey creates separation with jumping knee. Miguel trips up Bailey on the ropes, as Wentz puts him away with the UFO Cutter.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #4: Jordynne Grace & Trinity def. Gisele Shaw & Savannah Evans

The following is courtesy of tnawrestling.com:

After being laid out by the Gisele Shaw and her entourage two weeks ago, Knockouts World Champion Jordynne Grace and Trinity are out for retribution! In two weeks at No Surrender, Shaw will challenge Grace for the Knockouts World Title. Evans distracts the referee as Shaw sends Grace head-first into the hardest part of the ring. Shaw and Evans cut off the ring as they wear Grace down and prevent her from making the tag. Grace creates separation with a clothesline to Shaw, allowing her to make the tag to Trinity. The pace quickens as Trinity soars with at tope rope crossbody to Evans. Trinity hits Evans with the Rear View but Shaw breaks the pin attempt. Trinity hits Code Red of Evans, then forces her to submit with Star Struck.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #5: Kon def. Richard Adonis & Ori Gold

The following is courtesy of tnawrestling.com:

After dumping Deaner last week, Kon has been unleashed on TNA Wrestling! Kon makes quick work of his opponents after delivering a vicious Chokeslam to Gold.

My Score: 0 out of 5

Match #6: Josh Alexander def. Alan Angels

The following is courtesy of tnawrestling.com:

Josh Alexander looks to teach Alan Angels a lesson in respect after Angels had some choice words for him during the debut edition of Sound Check! Angels attacks Alexander during his entrance, then drives him into the steel ring post. Angels turns his back as Alexander makes him pay with a series of throws. Angels delivers a thumb to the eye while the referee’s vision is obstructed. Angels hits a dive to the outside, followed by a top rope splash in the ring. Alexander locks in the Ankle Lock but Angels crawls to the bottom rope. Alexander hits a backbreaker, then locks in another Ankle Lock to win by submission!

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #7: Alex Shelley def. Eddie Edwards

The following is courtesy of tnawrestling.com:

Before Alex Shelley receives his TNA World Championship rematch against Moose at No Surrender, he looks to take out another member of The System in Eddie Edwards! The fight spills to the outside where Eddie inadvertently kicks the steel ring post. Shelley stomps the left arm of Eddie on the apron, followed by a Dragon Screw leg whip. Eddie distracts the referee as Alisha chokes Shelley on the bottom rope. Shelley ties up Eddie in the corner, then locks in a Figure Four. Eddie makes it to the ropes in order to break the hold. Alisha gets up on the apron to provide another distraction, and Eddie capitalizes once again. Both men are down following a belly-to-belly suplex from Eddie. Shelley is fired up as he avoids the Boston Knee Party and rolls up Eddie for three.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Final Verdict: 3/5

Ignoring the recent shocking news, TNA continues its streak with another great episode maintaining momentum from Hard to Kill and the brand change. Not as good as the past couple of episodes but still well worth your time. The only downside? This was a taped show so we got a match featuring Trinity AFTER she made her return to the WWE! A small niggle in an other OK episode.
