‘Friday Night Smackdown’ Review (Feb 2nd 2024)
Welcome to this review of this past Friday’s episode of Friday Night Smackdown, right here on Nerdly. Let’s see what went down on this week’s episode!
Match #1: Kevin Owens def. Austin Theory
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
In a reversal of fortunes, the same plan that Logan Paul executed against Kevin Owens at Royal Rumble backfired on the United States Champion this time. As KO was looking strong against Theory, Paul, providing guest commentary, tossed the 150 million-hit man a pair of brass knuckles. Owens was able to snatch the weapon from Theory’s hand, however, nailing the former U.S. Champion square in the jaw. This time the referee did not see the infraction, allowing Owens to walk away with the victory.
My Score: 3 out of 5
Match #2: Fatal 4-Way Tag Team Qualifier Match – Pete Dunne & Tyler Bate def. Pretty Deadly, The LWO and Legado del Fantasma
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Determining The Judgment Day’s next challengers started tonight as Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate, Joaquin Wilde and Cruz del Toro of The LWO, Angel and Berto of Legado del Fantasma and Pretty Deadly duked it out. The winners of this match would earn themselves a match against a tag team from Raw to officially sanction The Judgment Day’s next tag team title defense. Wilde went wild, soaring through the sky as Dunne, Bate and del Toro assisted him in leaping onto the rest of the competitors at ringside. Just as things were devolving into bedlam, Zelina Vega attacked Elektra Lopez at ringside, leading to an all out brawl between The LWO and Legado del Fantasma, taking both teams out of the contest. With just Pretty Deadly and Dunne and Bate left, Dunne and Bate took care of Pretty Deadly with the assisted Tyler Driver ‘97.
My Score: 2.5 out of 5
Match #3: Tiffany Stratton def. Michin
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Making her electric SmackDown debut, Tiffany Stratton showed the world that now is Tiffy Time. After slapping her earlier in the evening, Stratton got her chance to shine by taking on Michin. Stratton made her SmackDown debut a memorable one, knocking off Michin with the Prettiest Moonsault Ever.
My Score: 2 out of 5
News of the Night:
- Bayley announced she would face IYO SKY at WrestleMania
Final Verdict: 2.5/5
Three matches. THREE MATCHES! I get it, there’s a lot of story to tell but to only have three matches on a two-hour show is, frankly, unforgivable. I get it, we got The Rock in a huge swerve move for the upcoming Wrestlemania championship match but come on… Three matches and only ONE actually being better than average. Plus, that Rock appearance, whilst it fired up the IWC seems to have gone down like a lead balloon. I’ll give the WWE the benefit of the doubt but right now it does feel like Cody is getting screwed over…
