‘WWE NXT’ Review (Dec 19th 2023)
Welcome to this week’s review of NXT, right here on Nerdly. Let’s get straight into it and see what went down in this episode…
Match #1: Fallon Henley def. Tiffany Stratton

Fallon Henley may have won the battle against Tiffany Stratton, but The Blonde Bombshell may be winning the war. Stratton looked like her usual dominant self showcasing her amazing blend of power and athleticism, but one roll-up from Henley allowed the country Superstar to score a major victory. However, after the match, an infuriated Stratton concentrated her frustrations on Henley and dumped trash on the helpless Superstar.

Match #2: NXT Men’s Breakout Tournament – Lexis King def. Dion Lennox

After attacking Trey Bearhill last week on NXT and being inserted in the NXT Men’s Breakout Tournament, Lexis King made the most of it by defeating Dion Lennox in the opening round. The brash and cocky ring mocked his opponent Dion Lennox at every turn but still, even after a scare from the uber-athletic newcomer, King focused his attention and overcame his opponent thanks to his Coronation to punch his ticket to the next round.

Match #3: Kiana James & Izzi Dame def. Thea Hail & Jacy Jayne

NXT’s newest dynamic duo put the locker room on notice as Kiana James and Izzi Dame won their tag team debut as they topped Thea Hail and Jacy Jayne. Chase U’s financial woes seemed to follow Hail and Jayne to the ring as, despite a Kimura Lock and a tap out from James, the referee was distracted and didn’t see the action. Under the impression she had won the match, Hail began to celebrate, only for Dame to nail a huge head kick to give her and James the victory.

Match #4: North American Championship Triple Threat Match – Dragon Lee def. Charlie Dempsey and Joe Coffey

Ever the fighting champion, Dragon Lee decided that not only would he take on Charlie Dempsey of the No Quarter Catch Crew, but also Joe Coffey of Gallus. Lee was his typical sensational self as he used his Lucha skills to keep the mat technician Dempsey and the bruising Coffey off balance. At one point Coffey seemed to be in a good position, but Joe Gacy appeared and attacked him, taking him out of the equation and allowing Lee to capitalize for the win. The No Quarter Catch Crew proceeded to beat the champion down, but Joaquin Wilde and Cruz Del Toro of the LWO arrived and helped Dragon Lee stave off the attack.

Match #5: NXT Men’s Breakout Tournament – Tavion Heights def. Luca Crusifino

The incredible Tavion Heights introduced himself to the NXT Universe in a big way as he defeated Luca Crusifino in the first round of the NXT Men’s Breakout Tournament. Heights used his amateur wrestling skills and his supreme athleticism to go right at Crusifino but despite the lawyer’s objections, Heights proved to be too much.

Match #6: Gallus def. Hank Walker & Tank Ledger

Wolfgang and Mark Coffey picked up the win against Hank Walker and Tank Ledger, but the bigger question is…what in the world is Joe Gacy doing? Things were going Gallus’ way, but Gacy appeared at ringside and nearly derailed their victory, and despite him chasing off Joe Coffey, the Gallus boys got the win.

Match #7: Ilja Dragunov vs. Ridge Holland (No Contest)

NXT Champion Ilja Dragunov was rudely greeted by a returning Ridge Holland, but the match between the two ended scarily. The Mad Dragon and Holland bludgeoned each other with crushing shots, but one by Holland proved to be the difference maker. Holland seemingly inadvertently injured the NXT Champion, forcing Dragunov to be stretchered out of the arena and the match to be ruled a no-contest.
My Score: 3 out of 5
Final Verdict: 2/5
One of the dullest episodes of NXT in some time and that’s saying something. Also, Brian Pillman Jr. looks f*cking ridiculous in NXT – the name sucks, his matches and skills seem to have gone backwards. Woof! One the plus side, until the ending, the main event looked like it was going to be a top-notch match… Until the ending…
