‘Impact Wrestling’ Review (Dec 14th 2023)

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this week’s review of Impact Wrestling, which this week is a special Hidden Gems edition of the show featuring a lineup of matches never before seen on television! Let’s get into the review and see what went down…

Match #1: Samuray Del Sol def. Alan Angels

The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:

It was an X-Division showcase as Alan Angels went one-on-one with Samuray Del Sol in Chicago, which was the site of this year’s historic Bound For Glory event. Despite Angels’ efforts to rip off the mask of Del Sol, he was unable to vanquish the Luchador. Del Sol would connect with Salida del Sol off the top rope to score his first singles victory in IMPACT Wrestling.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #2: MK Ultra def. Gisele Shaw & Savannah Evans

The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:

The Knockouts took Center Stage – literally – when Gisele Shaw and Savannah Evans battled MK Ultra in Atlanta. Shaw and Evans’ associate, Jai Vidal, wasted no time in getting involved as he attacked Kelly while the referee was distracted. However, MK Ultra were able to overcome the odds, planting Evans with a modified double Piledriver for three.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #3: Street Fight – PCO def. Deaner

The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:

The rules were tossed out the window when PCO battled Deaner in a Street Fight. Columbus played host to this wild brawl with no disqualifications, no count-outs and a plethora of weaponry. Deaner used everything at his disposal, including steel chairs, garbage cans, and even tables – but PCO would not stay down. In the end, oVe aided PCO in disposing of The Design, as PCO delivered the final PCO-Sault to Deaner.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #4: Channing Decker & Tommy Dreamer def. Dirty Dango & Alpha Bravo

The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:

A heated tag team showdown took place at Toronto’s Rebel Entertainment Complex as Dirty Dango and Alpha Bravo battled Channing Decker and Tommy Dreamer. Decker was the hometown hero, and the crowd was firmly behind him and his legendary tag team partner. Dreamer would add insult to injury when he catapulted Bravo into the groin area of Dango. Moments later, Dreamer spiked Bravo with his signature DDT to win.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #5: Deonna Purrazzo def. Taylor Wilde

The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:

We returned to Atlanta for a Knockouts World Championship bout as The Coven’s Taylor Wilde challenged Deonna Purrazzo. With the looming threat of KiLynn King at ringside, Purrazzo brought the fight to her with a running dropkick. The numbers game inevitably played a role, as Wilde capitalized off a distraction from King. But when the dust settled, it was Purrazzo who stood tall following the Queen’s Gambit.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #6: Josh Alexander def. Yuya Uemura

The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:

Josh Alexander went one-on-one with Yuya Uemura in Memphis, in what was Uemura’s final match in IMPACT Wrestling after he received the pink slip in Feast or Fired. It was a competitive back-and-forth contest, that saw the New Japan Pro-Wrestling standout take Alexander to his limit. After numerous submission attempts, Uemura was unable to put Alexander away. Alexander would prove once again why he is one of the greatest wrestlers in the world, delivering a statement-making C4 Spike to win.

My Score: 4 out of 5

Final Verdict: 3.5/5

I don’t normally review these “filler” episodes of Impact, mainly because they’re either repeats of stuff we’ve already seen or it’s one of those cheesy IPWF throwback shows. But this week’s episode was different, featuring “hidden gems” that LITERALLY were hidden gems! Especially the last match, which featured the final appearance of Yuya Uemura – which, honestly, shows that Yuya will actually be missed in Impact/TNA going forward. Hopefully he gets the chance to make some one-off appearances for the company in the future. A solid show across the board and one that I’d like to see more of in future… Because there are plenty more great matches we haven’t seen on TV, including some on the UK tour!
