Friday Night Smackdown – Dec 1st 2023: Results & Review

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this review of this past Friday’s episode of Friday Night Smackdown, right here on Nerdly. Let’s see what went down on this week’s episode!

Match #1: Bobby Lashley def. Butch

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

After being abandoned last week by Brawling Brutes teammate Ridge Holland, Butch was determined to prove himself as a solo competitor against Bobby Lashley. Despite an extraordinary effort from Butch, The All Mighty laid waste to his determined opponent with a wicked Spear.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #2: Santos Escobar def. Joaquin Wilde

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Though Joaquin Wilde was looking for retribution for the vicious attack on WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio, Santos Escobar drove his former LWO cohort into the canvas for the three-count. When Escobar attacked Wilde after the bell, however, Dragon Lee charged to the ring to make the save with a beatdown.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #3: Kevin Owens def. Grayson Waller

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Despite Austin Theory injuring Kevin Owens’ hand outside the ring, the resilient KO fought back and rolled up Grayson Waller for the quick victory.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #4: Bianca Belair def. Kairi Sane

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

With Charlotte Flair, Shotzi and Damange CTRL sent back the the locker room by the official, Bayley disregarded the order of WWE Women’s Champion IYO SKY and came to ringside to help Kairi Sane against Bianca Belair. Nevertheless, The EST of WWE caught Sane on the top rope and hit her with the K.O.D. for the victory.

My Score: 1.5 out of 5

Final Score: 2.5/5

Another average episode of Smackdown which was more focused on announcing Randy Orton joining the blue brand than putting a ton of great matches on. First off, poor Butch, he has been screwed over time and time again by the WWE. Imagine now being the one abandoned by Ridge Holland of all folks and losing to Bobby Lashley. Pete Dunn would have demolished Lashley back in the day. We need THAT man back in WWE. Santos Escobar and Joaquin Wilde had a decent match but Escobar probably needs to move up the card to capitalise on his current momentum, otherwise he’ll be back at square one in no time. As usual, the KO match was easily the highlight of this week’s show – it’ll be a sad day when KO finally retires from the WWE. Truly. As for the main event… What a letdown, Sane rolled over for Belair far too easily. This match should’ve been a lot more competitive to make it truly memorable. This match? You’ll have forgot it the next day!
