‘WWE NXT’ Review (Nov 21st 2023)

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this week’s review of NXT, right here on Nerdly. Let’s get straight into it and see what went down in this episode…

Match #1: NXT Heritage Cup – Noam Dar vs. Chad Gable

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

The NXT Heritage Cup remains with Noam Dar and The Meta-Four, but not without some controversy. After a scoreless round one, Dar stole round two thanks to a sneaky kick from Oro Mensah and a subsequent Nova Roller. Gable knotted the contest up at one apiece thanks to a rolling German suplex in round five. In the waning moments of round six, Gable locked in an Ankle Lock, but Dar tapped out just after the bell rang, ensuring that the Heritage Cup wouldn’t change hands.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #2: Angel Garza & Humberto Carrillo def. Malik Blade & Edris Enofé

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

In a matchup with championship implications, Angel Garza and Humberto Carrillo rose to the occasion and knocked off Malik Blade and Edris Enofé. Garza and Carrillo managed to neutralize Blade and isolate Enofé, ultimately nailing Enofé with a devastating tandem press/kick combo.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #3: Iron Survivor Qualifying Match – Josh Briggs def. Carmelo Hayes

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

In a stunner, Josh Briggs defeated Carmelo Hayes to punch his ticket to NXT Deadline for a spot in the Iron Survivor Match. Hayes was poised to hit Melo Don’t Miss, but Lexis King appeared and distracted the former NXT Champion, allowing Briggs to hit a massive lariat and a gravity defying moonsault to shock Hayes and the NXT Universe.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #4: Iron Survivor Qualifying Match – Blair Davenport def. Thea Hail

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

The terror of Blair Davenport continues as she took out Thea Hail in an Iron Survivor Qualifying Match. Davenport used her size and power advantage perfectly as she destroyed the left arm before hitting a crushing knee strike to punch her ticket to NXT Deadline.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #5: Eddy Thorpe def. Charlie Dempsey

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Mat technicians Eddy Thorpe and Charlie Dempsey battled in a singles match, a bout won by Thorpe that unfortunately came at a cost. Dempsey attempted an Abdominal Stretch, but it was expertly countered into a winning pinfall by Thorpe, but it immediately led to a beatdown by Dempsey, Drew Gulak, and Damon Kemp.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #6: Lyra Valkyria def. Xia Li

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

The era of Lyra Valkyria continues as the injured NXT Women’s Champion successfully defended her title against the dangerous Xia Li. Li dominated the champion, attacking Valkyria’s injured knee and systematically destroying her other limbs as well. The challenger went for one last knockout kick, but Valkyria ducked it, hit a roundhouse kick of her own, and hit an innovative driver to secure the victory.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Final Verdict: 3/5

A hell of an improvement over last week’s show, though that wasn’t difficult. The Iron Survivor stuff was pretty great this week but I think the Heritage Cup stuff needs some work or we’ll have far too many draws in future. The main event as Lyra Valkyria’s first title defence and as a first it was good, though I’d hope to see some deeper cuts for Valkyria’s opponents in future.
