Friday Night Smackdown – Oct 13th 2023: Results & Review

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this review of this past Friday’s episode of Friday Night Smackdown, right here on Nerdly. Let’s see what went down on this week’s episode!

Match #1: Pretty Deadly def. The Brawling Brutes

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Elton Prince returned from injury, and his team got right back in the win column as Pretty Deadly defeated The Brawling Brutes, albeit in controversial fashion. When The Brutes were in charge and looking for the win, Prince feigned a knee injury. This distracted the referee long enough for Kit Wilson to kick Ridge Holland, allowing Prince to roll him up for the win.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #2: Bayley def. Zelina Vega

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Damage CTRL Superstar Bayley used underhanded tactics to walk away the victor in a hotly contested matchup against The LWO’s Zelina Vega. Vega gained the upper hand in a back-and-forth contest, but WWE Women’s Champion IYO SKY hopped on the apron and distracted Vega long enough for Bayley to hit the Rose Plant and pin The LWO Superstar.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #3: Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship – Cody Rhodes & Jey Uso def. Austin Theory & Grayson Waller

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

The Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships remain with Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso as the unlikely duo once again retained their titles, this time against Austin Theory and Grayson Waller. Rhodes and Uso continued to show off their skills as a team as a Co-D followed by a Cross Rhodes put away Theory. After the match, Roman Reigns and The Bloodline emerged to engage in an epic standoff with the Tag Team Champions.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #4: LA Knight def. Solo Sikoa

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

LA Knight confronted Roman Reigns, and in order to get to the Tribal Chief, The Megastar had to first run through The Enforcer. Sikoa found himself in danger, and it prompted Jimmy Uso to appear, but John Cena came to the aid of Knight and delivered an AA to Uso. Knight took advantage of the chaos and hit a BFT to win the match, but Reigns sent a message to his potential challenger by hitting him with a devastating Spear.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Final Verdict: 2.5/5

This was an interesting week for Smackdown. On the one hand, the show opened with two average matches but then managed to recover somewhat in the latter two matches, Yet most of the interest was OUTSIDE the matches – the introduction of former TNA/NWA Champ Nick Aldis as the new General Manager of the blue brand; and the appearance of Roman Reigns to spear the shit out of LA Knight. The “hype of this special season premiere most certainly carried the show for two hours, especially when the wrestling didn’t.
