‘Impact Wrestling’ Review (Jun 15th 2023)
Welcome to this week’s review of Impact Wrestling, which this week opens with a Before the Impact match that saw Champagne Singh & Shera defeat Laredo Kid & Jack Price. Let’s get into the review…
Match #1: Rich Swann def. Moose
The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:
After being unable to coexist in the first-ever 8-4-1 match at Against All Odds, Rich Swann and Moose renew their epic rivalry tonight! Swann jumps off the apron but Moose catches him in mid-air and drives him into the hardest part of the ring and the steel guardrail. The brawl continues on the outside as Moose delivers a series of chops. Moose crashes and burns in the corner, allowing Swann to build momentum. Swann hits a tornado DDT to create some much-needed separation. Moose leaps up to the top rope and hits a thunderous Superplex. Moose catches him in mid-air with a cutter, followed by a Handspring Cutter for two. Moose bounces back with a powerbomb for a near fall of his own. Swann counters the spear into a pinning predicament to win.
My Score: 3.5 out of 5
Match #2: ABC (Ace Austin & Chris Bey) def. Decay (Black Taurus & Crazzy Steve)
The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:
Black Taurus and Crazzy Steve look to earn a future IMPACT World Tag Team Title opportunity as they face off against the champs in non-title action! Taurus suplexes his own partner into Austin. Steve bites both members of ABC but they catch him with mid-air double superkicks. Bey soars with a Moonsault to take out Taurus on the outside. ABC hit 1-2-Sweet to pin Steve for the victory.
My Score: 1.5 out of 5
Match #3: Alex Shelley, Chris Sabin, Nick Aldis, Deonna Purrazzo & Trinity def. Trey Miguel, Kenny King, Sheldon Jean, Gisele Shaw & Savannah Evans
The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:
It’s main event time as 10 of IMPACT’s best compete in a star-studded tag team match! Purrazzo locks in the Fujiwara Armbar on Evans while Trinity locks in Star Struck on Shaw until Miguel and Jean break things up. King gets involved from the apron as he hangs up Sabin on the top rope. Miguel capitalizes with an Enzuigiri for two. King distracts the referee, allowing the rest of his team to pummel Sabin on the outside. Miguel continues to wear Sabin down as he cuts off the ring and prevents him from making the tag. Sabin tries to scramble towards his corner but King shuts him down once again. Sabin finally creates some separation with a tornado DDT off the second rope. Sabin makes the tag to Shelley as the pace quickens. Shelley goes on the attack, taking out King with a superkick on the floor. Back in the ring, Shelley hits a top rope Atomic Drop on Miguel, then locks in the Motor City Stretch. The match begins to break down as everyone gets involved. Vidal blindsides Trinity with a clothesline while the referee is distracted. Aldis tosses him over the top rope but gets caught with a neckbreaker from Miguel. Shelley ducks, causing King to collide with Jean. Aldis connects with a Michinoku Driver on King. Shelley hits Shell Shock on Jean to score the victory.
My Score: 3.5 out of 5
Final Verdict: 2.5/5
Dear god, what the hell happened this week on Impact? Three matches, THREE?!?! Far, far, far too many promos and interview segments. Literally all talk and no action this week unfortunately. We got two great matches and one quasi-squash and that was it. OK, so two great matches… That’s good right? Yes, if this was a one-hour show! Seriously, when a company backs itself into a corner following a pay-per-view and has to spend almost an entire show focused on explaining things, discussing feuds etc. then there’s a problem. And this week’s Impact suffered as a consequence.
