‘Impact Wrestling’ Review (Mar 30th 2023)
Welcome to this week’s review of Impact Wrestling, which this week opens with a Before the Impact match that saw Brian Myers defeat Jack Price. Let’s get into the review…
Match #1: Miyu Yamashita def. Killer Kelly
The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:
It’s time for the first never-before-seen matchup of the night as Miyu Yamashita makes her IMPACT in-ring debut. Yamashita hits a pinpoint kick, knocking Kelly off her feet in the early going. Yamashita puts her submission game on display but Kelly rolls her up for two. Kelly delivers a series of headbutts, followed by a butterfly suplex into the turnbuckles. Kelly connects with a delayed running dropkick in the corner. Moments later, both Knockouts are down following a bicycle kick from Kelly. The fight spills to the floor where Yamashita hits a step-up kick. Kelly regains control by dropping her face-first on the apron. Back in the ring, Yamashita locks in the Killer Clutch but Yamashita breaks free and hits a German suplex. Yamashita connects with the Skull Kick to win.
My Score: 4 out of 5
Match #2: IMPACT World Championship – Josh Alexander def. KENTA
The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:
The never-before-seen matchups continue as we witness Josh Alexander’s last IMPACT World Title defense before relinquishing the title due to injury. KENTA knocks Alexander out of the ring, then drives him face-first into the steel ring post. Back in the ring, KENTA powerslams him into the mat and begins to play mind games with the champ. Both men exchange strikes in the middle of the ring with Alexander gaining the upper-hand. Alexander hits a rolling senton, then drives his knee into the back of KENTA’s neck. KENTA removes the top turnbuckle pad before delivering a flying clothesline off the top rope. Both men are thinking the same thing as headbutts send them crashing down to the mat. KENTA hits the draping DDT, followed by the hesitation dropkick in the corner moments later. KENTA soars with the top rope double foot stomp for two. Alexander counters the GTS into the Ankle Lock. KENTA sends him into the exposed turnbuckle, then almost puts him away with a roll up. Alexander returns the favor, hitting Snake Eyes into the exposed turnbuckle. Alexander hits the C4 Spike to win.
My Score: 4.5 out of 5
Final Verdict: 4/5
This was a hard episode to review. One the one hand we got two SUPERB matches but on the other this was essentially a “pre-show” for Multiverse United, Impact’s pay-per-view with New Japan Pro Wrestling – with various promos, talking heads, analysis, etc., to build up that show. Still, the wrestling we got was amongst some of the best of the week… and definitely hyped up the clash of brands at Multiverse United, that’s for sure!
