Friday Night Smackdown – Oct 28th 2022: Results & Review

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this review of this past Friday’s episode of Friday Night Smackdown, right here on Nerdly, which saw “Uncle Howdy” berate Bray Wyatt… Weird. Anyway, let’s see what went down on the rest of the show!

Match #1: Ridge Holland & Butch def. Sami Zayn & Solo Sikoa

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Following a brutal Bloodline attack that left Sheamus out of action last week, The Brawling Brutes were out for payback against Sami Zayn & Solo Sikoa. When Butch climbed to the top rope, Jey failed to understand that Zayn was playing possum to his ascending opponent. Thinking he was helping, Jey opted to pull The Honorary Uce out of the ring. A frustrated Zayn wasted time arguing with the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champion, and when Ridge Holland took out Jey and Solo Sikoa, Sami finally reengaged Butch and immediately fell victim to the small package for the loss.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #2: The New Day def. Maximum Male Models

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

After Xavier Woods took out a disruptive ma.çé outside the ring, he and Kofi Kingston hit Midnight Hour on mån.sôör for the victory.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #3: Ronda Rousey def. Emma

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Emma made a surprise WWE reemergence to answer Ronda Rousey’s open challenge and challenge The Baddest Woman on the Planet for the SmackDown Women’s Championship. Despite Emma giving Rousey more than she bargained for, the titleholder raked her opponent’s eyes before making the returning Superstar tap out to the Armbar.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #4: Shinsuke Nakamura & Hit Row def. Legado del Fantasma

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Shinsuke Nakamura emerged as Hit Row’s surprise partner in a Six-Man Tag Team Match against Legado del Fantasma. In the final moments, Santos Escobar suffered Down Town Three by Top Dolla into a Kinshasa from Nakamura to give Shinsuke and Hit Row the win!

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #5: Karrion Kross def. Madcap Moss

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Karrion Kross overcame Madcap Moss by hitting his opponent with a Down the Rabbit Hole into a club to the back of the head. Seconds after the matchup, Kross locked Madcap into the Kross Jacket to send a serious message to Drew McIntyre ahead of the Steel Cage Match at WWE Crown Jewel.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Final Verdict: 3/5

This was a night of average wrestling that was elevated by two brilliant promos – the closer from Bray Wyatt, which was interrupted by Uncle Howdy; and that ridiculous but fantastically fun promo from Saami Zayn that had Roman Reigns and the rest of the Bloodline almost completely break character. It was so good seeing a bunch of guys having actual FUN in the ring, a sure sign the Vince days are now far, far, behind us.
