Friday Night Smackdown – Oct 21st 2022: Results & Review
Welcome to this review of this past Friday’s episode of Friday Night Smackdown, right here on Nerdly, which saw Logan Paul return to the WWE. Let’s see what went down!
Match #1: Solo Sikoa def. Sheamus
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
One week after mixing it up in a high-stakes Fatal 4-Way Match, Sheamus took on Solo Sikoa one-on-one for the first-time-ever. Throughout the extremely hard-hitting affair, Solo targeted the injured left shoulder of The Celtic Warrior. Nevertheless, the former WWE Champion battled back. When it looked as if Sheamus might emerge victorious with a earth-shattering knee, however, Sami Zayn distracted the official. This ignited an explosive altercation between The Bloodline and The Brawling Brutes outside the ring. During the subsequent chaos, Zayn again interjected in the contest and paved the way for Sikoa to pick up the victory with the Spinning Solo. With Butch and Ridge Holland neutralized after the bell, Sikoa, Zayn and The Usos carried out a vicious attack on Sheamus by trapping his arm in a steel chair and using a second chair to smash his arm on the unforgiving ring steps.
My Score: 3 out of 5
Match #2: Sonya Deville vs. Liv Morgan (Double Count Out)
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
One week after Liv Morgan jumped off the SmackDown set and put Sonya Deville through a table, the two Superstars squared off on the blue brand. In the height of the matchup, however, Liv brought the action outside the ring and aggressively attacked her opponent until the official counted-out both Superstars. After the bell, the beat down continued when the unhinged former SmackDown Women’s Champion filled the ring with steel chairs and delivered a Superplex on the wartorn Deville off the top rope.
My Score: 1.5 out of 5
Match #3: WWE Women’s Tag Team Title Match – Dakota Kai & IYO SKY def. Rodriguez & Shotzi
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Damage CTRL successfully defended the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships.against Raquel Rodriguez & Shotzi when a Bayley distraction paved the way for IYO SKY to hit the moonsault on Shotzi for the three-count.
My Score: 3 out of 5
Match #4: Rey Mysterio def. Ludwig Kaiser
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
After earning an Intercontinental Title Match against Gunther in a Fatal 4-Way Match last week, The Legendary Luchador looked to send a message to The Ring General in a showdown against Imperium’s Ludwig Kaiser. With Imperium interfering throughout the match, Mysterio paid homage to the late Eddie Guerrero. As the official was distracted with Kaiser inside the ring, Mysterio threw a chair at Gunther and fell to the ground. This made the official think Gunther had interfered and both The Ring General and Giovanni Vinci were ejected from ringside Moments later, Mysterio took down his opponent with the 619/Splash combination.
My Score: 3.5 out of 5
Final Verdict: 3/5
An improvement on last week’s show, we got more of Bray Wyatt and some good matches on top of that. And by good matches I mean we only got one bad match among the lost, which is good going for ANY wrestling show! No idea what was going on with the Morgan/DeVille match TBH and whilst the women’s tag match was good, the outcome was never in doubt which spoilt things somewhat. Always good to see a show that opens and closes strong, which this week’s episode of Smackdown did.
