Friday Night Smackdown – Sep 23rd 2022: Results & Review
Welcome to this review of this past Friday’s episode of Friday Night Smackdown, right here on Nerdly. Let’s see what went down this week…
Match #1: Liv Morgan def. Lacey Evans
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Focused on proving her Extreme side en route to her Extreme Rules Match against Ronda Rousey on Oct. 8, SmackDown Women’s Champion Liv Morgan looked to make Lacey Evans eat her words in a tough showdown. Evans attempted to use a Kendo stick, but Liv avoided the attack and hit the Oblivion for the victory. After the bell, Morgan unleashed a vicious post-match Kendo stick attack on her fallen opponent before driving Evans through a table with an earth-shattering flying Senton off the turnbuckle to send an Extreme message to The Baddest Woman on the Planet.
My Score: 1.5 out of 5
Match #2: The New Day def. Maximum Male Models
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Maximum Male Models’ ma.cé & mån.sôör failed to prove their in-ring ability against The New Day in light of recent setbacks. Instead, after Maxxine Dupri accidentally distracted her team with an impromptu photo shoot, Xavier Woods rolled up mån.sôör with the Back Woods for the win! After the match, a frustrated Max Dupri told off his clients in an out-of-control tantrum. He then stormed away and left Maxxine and his models behind as he stormed off alone.
My Score: 2 out of 5
Match #3: Braun Strowman def. Otis
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
In an extremely physical slugfest between two of the most powerful Superstars in WWE history that was filled with jaw-dropping moments, Braun Strowman reigned supreme over Otis with the Powerbomb on his massive opponent.
My Score: 2.5 out of 5
Match #4: Raquel Rodriguez def. Dakota Kai
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
In the final moments of a supposed one-on-one showdown pitting Raquel Rodriguez against her one-time NXT cohort Dakota Kai, Shotzi emerged to neutralize the interfering Damage CTRL. This allowed Rodriguez to roll up Kai for the three-count. Although Bayley, Kai & IYO SKY attacked after the bell, Shotzi helped Rodriguez fend off the onslaught to send Damage CTRL heading for the hills.
My Score: 1.5 out of 5
Match #5: Undisputed WWE Tag Team Title Match – The Usos def. The Brawling Brutes
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
After winning a Fatal 4-Way Tag Team Match last week, Ridge Holland & Butch challenged WWE Undisputed Tag Team Champions The Usos. Sami Zayn attempted to add a steel chair into the mix, drawing the ire of Sheamus. Before The Celtic Warrior could get his hands on the meddling opposition, though, Imperium suddenly attacked him out of nowhere. The distraction allowed Jimmy & Jey to overcome Butch with 1-D and continue their dominant title reign.
My Score: 3 out of 5
News of the Night:
- Sami Zayn was made an honorary Uce.
- Drew McIntyre challenged Karrion Kross to a Strap Match at WWE Extreme Rules.
Final Verdict: 2.5/5
That was some average stuff for the “current” state of WWE programming. A botched promo, some terrible matches and a main event that only just managed to redeem the entire thing! Even the New Day couldn’t deliver this week… What the hell went wrong?!
