‘Impact Wrestling’ Review (June 2nd 2022)

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this week’s review of Impact Wrestling, which this week opens with a Before the Impact match that saw Alisha defeat Renee Michelle. Apparently, according to reports, this week’s Impact is the last for W. Morrisey, which is a shame… Hopefully he’s headed on to bigger and better things! Let’s get into the review…

Match #1: Mia Yim def. Savannah Evans

The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:

Mia Yim competes in her first singles match since returning to IMPACT Wrestling as she battles the powerful Savannah Evans. Deonna Purrazzo, who will join Yim in the first-ever Queen of the Mountain match at Slammiversary, joins Tom Hannifan on commentary. Evans spikes her with a big DDT. Evans continues the assault with a pop-up powerbomb but it’s not enough to put Yim away. Yim uses her quickness to avoid Evans, sending her crashing into the steel ring post. Yim regains her composure, then hits a flurry of suplexes. Evans comes back with a Samoan Drop for two. Knockouts World Champion Tasha Steelz attacks Yim from ringside but Jordynne Grace evens the odds. In the ring, Yim puts Evans away with Eat Defeat!

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #2: Kenny King def. Blake Christian

The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:

Trey Miguel joins Tom Hannifan on commentary after he convinced Kenny King to put his spot in the Ultimate X match at Slammiversary on the line against longtime friend Blake Christian! The pace is fast and furious as Christian hits a handspring kick, sending King retreating to the outside. Christian soars through the air with a dive over the top rope. During the commercial break, King hangs him up on the ropes to gain control. Christian hits a Half and Half suplex for two. King connects with a springboard Blockbuster but this time it’s Christian who kicks out at two. King is perched over the top rope as Christian hits a Frog Splash to his back. King counters a 450 Splash into the Royal Flush to win!

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #3: Rich Swann def. Matthew Rehwoldt

The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:

New Digital Media Champion Rich Swann is out for revenge on Matthew Rehwoldt after he left the announce table and eliminated Swann from the Gauntlet for the Gold! Swann attempts Sliced Bread on the apron but Rehwoldt counters and sends him crashing into the steel ring post. Swann fights back with a neckbreaker, followed by a step-up kick for two. Rehwoldt catches Swann in mid-air, then plants him to the mat with Earth Shatter. Swann connects with a cutter, followed by his signature Phoenix Splash to win!

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #4: Matt Taven & Mike Bennett def. Heath & Rhino

The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:

Heath and Rhino look to defend the legacy of IMPACT as they take on Matt Taven and Mike Bennett tonight! The leader of Honor No More, Eddie Edwards, joins Tom Hannifan on commentary. Taven and Bennett cut off the ring as they begin to wear Heath down. Heath is about to tag in Rhino when Bennett knocks him off the apron. Heath counters a neckbreaker from Taven into a clothesline, allowing him to make the tag. The pace quickens as Rhino goes on the attack. Amidst the chaos, Bennett hits Rhino with a superkick, followed by The Climax from Taven for three!

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #5: Moose & Steve Maclin def. W. Morrissey & PCO

The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:

Four of the biggest stars in IMPACT step into the ring for this all-star tag team main event! Morrissey and PCO are working well together in the opening minutes as they deliver a double chokeslam to Maclin. Moments later, Maclin knees Morrissey from the apron, allowing Moose to target his knee and gain control. Moose and Maclin keep Morrissey grounded until he’s able to break free and make the tag to PCO. Maclin gets flattened by PCO who soars with the De-animator off the top rope. PCO continues the attack with a cannonball to the outside, taking out both Moose and Maclin. Morrissey is Caught in the Crosshairs before Maclin collides with PCO on the floor. Maclin finishes off Morrissey with a vicious DDT for three!

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

News of the Night:

  1. Sharkboy AND “Wildcat” Chris Harris returned to Impact!
  2. Scott D’Amore announced a five-on-five Honor No More vs IMPACT Originals match at Slammiversary

Final Verdict: 3/5

Broken record time. Again and again. Another strong, solid episode of Impact this week. This company delivers week after week after week. Yes, we get an occasional blip but the consistency is extremely high, especially compared to other wrestling promotions we cover. For me, the only thing that could put Impact over the top is better production values. This week’s show was a slight drop in quality over last week but the company is still putting on fantastic matches week after week. This episode of strong with the Mia Yim/Savannah Evans match and the quality stayed pretty much consistent through the show with a main event that satisfied. If tonight’s episode was the last for W. Morrissey he at least went out on a high. The build to Slammiversary continues!
