‘Impact Wrestling’ Review (Feb 24th 2022)
Welcome to this weeks review of Impact Wrestling, which this week opens with a Before the Impact match that saw Mike Bailey & Ace Austin defeat X-Division Champion Trey Miguel & Jake Something. With that out of the way let’s get right into the main show and this review!
Match #1: No DQ “Dotcombat” Match for the Digital Media Championship – Matt Cardona def. Jordynne Grace
The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:
After Jordynne Grace was disqualified in her Digital Media Title bout against Matt Cardona at No Surrender, they are set to run it back tonight in the first-ever Dotcombat match where there are no disqualifications, no count outs and anything goes! Grace jumpstarts the match by using a DVD player as a weapon. Grace takes out Cardona with a dive to the outside. Cardona hits a DDT on the floor to gain control. Cardona continues the assault by hitting Grace with a keyboard, followed by a neckbreaker for two. Grace drops him stomach-first onto the back on a steel chair, then uses a selfie stick like a baton. Grace powerbombs Cardona into a pile of cell phones but when she goes for the low blow, Cardona reveals that he’s wearing a cup. Grace makes him pay for taking out his cup by successfully hitting a low blow on her next attempt. Cardona sends Grace into a steel chair, then rolls her up with a hold of the ropes to retain the title!
My Score: 3 out of 5
Match #2: Bhupinder Gujjar def. John Skyler
The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:
Brian Myers provides alternate commentary from his very own announce desk as John Skyler looks to even the score with Bhupinder Gujjar. The pace is fast and furious from the opening bell as Gujjar hits a high back body drop. Gujjar is about to fly when Skyler rolls away to safety. Skyler sends him shoulder-first into the steel ring post to gain control. Gujjar hits a ripcord knee strike, followed by a spinebuster for two. Gujjar hits his signature spear out of the corner to win!
My Score: 2.5 out of 5
Match #3: Champ Champ Challenge for the AAA Reina de Reinas Championship – Deonna Purrazzo def. Lady Frost
The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:
Lady Frost answers the Champ Champ Challenge and chooses to put Deonna Purrazzo’s AAA Reina de Reinas Title on the line! Frost takes Purrazzo off her feet with a roundhouse kick. Purrazzo turns the tide by trapping Frost in a surfboard and delivering a stomp the lower back. Purrazzo targets the knee as she drives it into the unprotected apron. Frost sacrifices her left leg by hitting a Moonsault to the floor. Frost connects with a handspring cannonball into the corner but the damage to her knee prevents her from capitalizing. Purrazzo locks in Venus de Milo to retain the AAA Reina de Reinas Title via submission!
My Score: 3 out of 5
Match #4: JONAH def. Zicky Dice
The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:
Zicky Dice looks to bounce back after being cut from The Learning Tree but unfortunately for him, he has run straight into JONAH’s path of destruction! JONAH hits a strong vertical suplex, followed by a running senton. JONAH connects with a thunderous sit-down powerbomb to win the match in quick fashion.
My Score: 1.5 out of 5
Match #5: Honor No More (Matt Taven, Mike Bennett & Kenny King) def. Rich Swann, Willie Mack & Chris Sabin
The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:
The war between Honor No More and IMPACT Wrestling is far from over and it continues in tonight’s six-man tag team main event! PCO confronts Sabin at ringside, allowing Bennett to capitalize off the distraction and toss him into the unforgiving steel guardrail. King pummels Sabin with repeated strikes as Honor No More cuts off the ring. Sabin uses his quickness to avoid Bennett and sends him crashing into his own partner. Sabin makes the tag to Swann who goes on the attack. Swann and Mack hits a double team flapjack on Taven for two. Mack hits Taven with a Samoan Drop, followed by his signature standing Moonsault. King kicks Swann off the apron, allowing Taven to tag in Bennett, unbeknownst to Mack. Taven and Bennett connect with the Protown Pack on Mack to score another huge victory!
My Score: 3 out of 5

Final Verdict: 4/5
This was a superb “reboot” of Impact following the events of No Surrender. New storylines started, new feuds, a refresh of the show all around. And on top of that five great matches (yes, even though I score squash matches low, it was still a good squash match). The opening “gimmick” match sounded weird, and featured some ridiculous weapons – cellphones and computer equipment – it was actually a lot of fun. That opener kicked off a bevy of similarly good matches, with the Deonna Purrazzo / Lady Frost a particular personal highlight, definitely the kind of match Lady Frost should be a part of in Impact. The show went very WWE at the end, finishing on a promo from Eddie Edwards but it worked, especially given the appearance of Edwards’ wife, bemused at what her husband had done. A brilliant episode of Impact that really delivered… if you’re not taking Impact seriously as the SECOND best promotion in the US, this is the week that proves it.
