‘Impact Wrestling: Turning Point 2019’ Review

by Nathan Favel

Welcome to this review of Impact Wrestling’s Turning Point, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and Power Rangers is a euphemism for horny ballerina. Okay, that might be made-up, but who cares? Also, Donald Glover did a lousy job of playing Lando Calrissian in Solo. Now, as a version of Huggy Bear on Valium, maybe, but not Lando Calrissian. Okay, let’s get to the fun.

Match #1: Tessa Blanchard and Jordynne Grace defeated Madison Rayne and Havok

My Opinion: 2.7 out of 5 – This was good, but not great. I hate always giving so many women’s matches lower scores, but that is the way the cookie crumbles right now. Maybe thing will be better in a year’s time.

Match #2: Clutch Adams defeated DeSean Pratt, Façade, Mason, KC Navarro and Evander James – 6-Way Fray

My Opinion: 2.9 out of 5 – Façade and the rest of the gang worked hard to make this a fun sprint toward the finish line.

Match #3: Michael Elgin defeated Mike Orlando

My Opinion: 2.8 out of 5 – Elgin ripped Orlando to pieces. That sounds like a thinly-veiled joke about a prissy hurricane destroying part of Florida, but it’s not.

Match #4: Moose defeated Fallah Bahh

My Opinion: 3.2 out of 5 – This was good, but could have used some spit and polish, if you catch my drift.

Match #5: Taya Valkyrie defeated Tenille Dashwood

My Opinion: 3.2 out of 5 – Both women were guilty of not being as exciting as they could have been, but they worked hard and didn’t screw the pooch.

Match #6: The North defeated Willie Mack & Rich Swann – Impact Tag Team Title Match

My Opinion: 3.7 out of 5 – Now this was a dynamite match. Wait, this isn’t AEW. These guys pummeled each other like it was Coke versus Pepsi. Dr. Pepper! This is definitely a pairing that can be put together any time you need a good one to anchor a card.

Match #7: Eddie Edwards defeated Mahabali Shera

My Opinion: 2.3 out of 5 – Eddie sold for Shera like crazy, so at least there’s some-thing here to watch.

Match #8: Ace Austin defeated Jake Crist – Impact X-Division Title Match

My Opinion: 3.3 out of 5 – This was a frisky little title match that had enough of a spark to it make it stand out from the rest of the buffalo in the herd.

Match #9: Rob Van Dam defeated Rhino

My Opinion: 3.3 out of 5 – This was smartly wrestled for the time it went and benefitted from having two guys who are likely to be very comfortable with each other.

Match #10: (Main Event) Sami Callihan defeated Brian Cage – Impact World Title Match

My Opinion: 3.5 out of 5 – This was another good one between these two guys. They clobbered the piss out of each other, which is a fine way to alleviate your prostate if you can’t afford the appointment to see you doctor to clear it up. This felt like one of those WWF prize fights from 2001, where they were good matches, but always left a little something to be desired. How-ever, in a pinch, this match will do quite nicely.

Final Verdict: 3.3/5

Not as good as Turning Points from previous years, this was a solid show that had some enjoyable wrestling.
