‘Impact Wrestling’ Review (Sept 27th 2019)

by Nathan Favel

Welcome to this week’s Impact Wrestling review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have a wedding at the climax of the show. Yeah, a wedding. Who would pay to see a wrestler get married when you could pay to see them fight some-one? Okay, let’s get to the marriage thing so I don’t have to talk about that ever again.

Match #1: Rob Van Dam & Rhino w/ Konnan def. The North (Ethan Page & Josh Alexander)

The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:

Rhino attempts the Gore but Page cuts him off with a superkick. RVD and Page spill to the outside with RVD taking a nasty spill. The referee is checking on RVD on the floor. Meanwhile, Alexander attempts to use the title as a weapon but Konnan stops him. Rhino connects with the Gore on Alexander, followed by a Five Star Frog Splash from RVD to win.

My Opinion: 3.1 out of 5 – This was a good match that felt more like a teaser of what these four can do with each other, rather than being the match that delivers the best these four can do with one another. Their styles meshed well and it never felt to slow, like my brain doing smart people math. 2+2=22. That’s a hard one! Oopsey daisy! This wasn’t half bad and that’s a win in my book.

Match #2: Mahabali Shera w/ Desi Hit Squad (Rohit Raju, Raj Singh & Gama Singh) def. Cousin Jake w/ Cody Deaner

The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:

Rohit distracts Jake from the outside, allowing Shera to gain control with big clothesline. Jake hits a series of running strikes in the corner and takes out Rohit and Raj on the apron. Shera connects with Sky-High, followed by a powerslam to pick up the dominant victory.

My Opinion: 0.9 out of 5 – Some-times things are just lousy.

Match #3: Tenille Dashwood def. Madison Rayne

The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:

Madison is in control in the early going. Tenille gains momentum with a running dropkick. Madison tries to retreat up the ramp but Tenille stops her and hits a slingshot neckbreaker. Tenille connects with a running forearm strike into the corner. Madison comes right back with an Enzuigiri, followed by a Northern Lights suplex for a near fall. Tenille hits the Spotlight to score the victory.

My Opinion: 2.8 out of 5 – The match wasn’t the most exciting thing of the year or any-thing like that, but Tenille looked great in victory.

Match #4: (Main Event) Tessa Blanchard def. Dave Crist w/ X-Division Champion Jake Crist – X-Division Championship Ladder Match Qualifier

The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:

The winner of this match will move on to a 5-person ladder match for the X-Division Championship at Bound for Glory. Dave hits a big boot out of the corner but Tessa comes right back with a flurry of fists. Tessa sends Dave over the top rope to the floor with a backdrop. Fulton grabs hold of Tessa but Jake holds him back, preventing the referee from disqualifying Fulton. The referee ejects Fulton from ringside as a result. Dave distracts the referee while Jake attacks Tessa on the apron. Tessa connects with the Buzzsaw DDT to win and qualify.

My Opinion: 3.3 out of 5 – This turned out pretty good, with the right person winning the match. Tessa should be fighting for the World Title at Bound For Glory, but this will suffice, that’s for sure.

News Of The Night:

  1. 1. Rob Van Dam/Rhino and Willie Mack/Rich Swann are being teased as the next teams to challenge for the Impact Tag Team Titles.
  2. 2. Tenille Dashwood will fight Taya Valkyrie for the Knockouts Championship at Bound for Glory.
  3. 3. Moose went to Ken Shamrock’s MMA school, Syndicate MMA, and attacked his students while Shamrock cut a promo in the Impact Zone.
  4. 4. Tessa Blanchard is in the 5-Way Ladder Match for the X-Division Title at Bound For Glory.
  5. 5. Ace Austin had Reno Scum drug Eddie Edwards so he would miss the Cage/Santos wedding.
  6. 6. Brian Cage and Melissa Santos got married.
  7. 7. Sami Callihan accidentally hit Melissa Santos with a bottle of wine/champagne.

Final Verdict: 2.8/5

The wedding was funny, but a waste of time. The matches were decent, but not enough to make the show worth watching. Bound For Glory deserves better build than this.
