‘Impact Wrestling’ Review (March 21st 2019)
Welcome to this week’s Impact Wrestling review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have a new member of oVe debuting here, so let’s see how it all goes…Captain Marvel was good, but not great. Uh-oh, it’s Aubrey Plaza…with a shot-gun.
Match #1: Moose def. Trey
The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:
Trey hits numerous suicide dives to the floor. Moose catches him on his final attempt and connects with a sick powerbomb on the apron! Trey goes for a Hurricanrana but once again, Moose stops it and throws Trey into the steel ring steps! Moose attempts Go to Hell but Trey reverses into a pinning attempt for a near fall. Trey hits a flip dive over the top rope to the floor, followed by a frog splash for the two count. Trey hits a reverse Hurricanrana for another near fall! Moose connects with a thunderous Spear to pick up the victory.
My Take: 2.5 out of 5 – This was a solid match that had a few dull moments, in addition to mistakes, but still did its job.
Match #2: Eddie Edwards & Eli Drake def. KM & Fallah Bahh
The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:
Fallah hits Eddie with a sidewalk slam, followed by a springboard from KM. Drake hits KM with a Superplex off the top! Eddie sends Fallah to the outside and follows up with the suicide dive. Eddie is about to use his kendo stick but the referee stops him. Instead, Eddie tosses the kendo stick to Drake and he cracks KM over the head with it! Eddie connects with the Boston Knee Party on KM to score the victory.
My Take: 2 out of 5 – This wasn’t much of a match, but Eddie looked great here.
Match #3: Ace Austin def. Damian Hyde
The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:
Austin hits a big boot on the apron, followed by a dropkick through the ropes. Austin flies over the top, crashing into Hyde on the floor! Austin connects with a springboard boot. The finish comes when Austin connects with The Fold to win!
My Take: 2.5 out of 5 – Ace looked great in a squash match that made Hyde look like an idiot. I enjoyed Ace’s offense, even if it reminds me of a WWE match too much. If Ace doesn’t get a chance to be the X-Division Champion at some point this year, then what was the point of bringing him in? Hell, it seems like there’s only a couple of people in the X-Division at all. Overall, this was a fun match.
Match #4: Willie Mack def. Ethan Page
The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:
Page sends Willie crashing into the corner but Willie comes right back with a Samoan Drop. Willie hits a standing Moonsault in the early going. Willie flies but Page avoids it and sends him into the steel ring post! Willie connects with a missile dropkick in the corner. Page connects with a superkick! Willie hits the Stunner to win!
My Take: 2.5 out of 5 – This was a boring match that had the right winner.
Match #5: (Main Event) Rich Swann def. Sami Callihan – X-Division Championship Match
The following is courtesy of impactwrestling.com:
Callihan hits Swann with an Exploder suplex on the steel ramp to take control! Callihan continues to wear down Swann, not allowing him to get any offense going. Swann takes Callihan off the top with a Hurricanrana for a two count. Swann hits the 450 splash for another near fall! Callihan connects with a powerbomb off the top rope but Swann kicks out! Callihan spits in the face of Swann but that only fires him up! Swann hits a handspring cutter but Callihan kicks out this time! Swann rolls up Callihan to score the victory and retain the title!
My Take: 3 out of 5 – This was a match that almost got a score higher than were it was graded by me, but…I sound like an asshole. It was a good one, but it just wasn’t allowed to go farther than what it did. I liked the intensity from both guys and the idea that they were using the title fight to get away with destroying each other. The chemistry between these two guys was great and I really enjoyed what they did here. Overall, this was the right match to end the card with.
News Of The Night:
- Mad Man Fulton (Sawyer Fulton) joined oVe and attacked Rich Swann.
- Tessa Blanchard demanded that Gail Kim apologize and be fired for attacking her.
- LAX and the Lucha Bros. brawled.
- Disco Inferno is preparing for the Scarlett Bordeaux match by getting drunk.
- Rosemary has to go to the under-world to save Allie’s soul by confronting “him”.
- Johnny Impact claimed that the people turned on him, so he turned on the people.
Final Verdict: 2.5/5
This was a slow, dull show that had a few big moments, but not enough wrestling to keep me interested.
