‘NXT: UK’ Review (Jan 2nd 2019)
Welcome to this week’s NXT: UK review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have more wrestling from the UK brand as the race to the NXT: UK Tag Titles continues.
Match #1: Toni Storm def. Deonna Purrazzo
The following is courtesy of WWE.com:
Following Deonna Purrazzo’s claim that she should face NXT UK Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley at NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool, Toni Storm suggested that the confident competitor prove her claims against her in the spirit of “friendly competition.” But in the subsequent matchup, things quickly grew intense, with both competitors leaving everything on the canvas. Battling back from the incredibly hard-fought encounter against a very game Virtuosa of NXT UK, Storm ultimately triumphed with a German suplex into Storm Zero. As the dust cleared, however, she was suddenly interrupted by the The Mosh Pit Kid herself, Rhea Ripley, who stepped up on the apron to go eyeball-to-eyeball with her TakeOver challenger, holding her title high in the air.
My Take: 3 out of 5 – This was a solid match. I feel bad for Toni and he nude picture leak, but this should not have effect on her career… at least in a fair world. Then again, who ever said life is fair? Good luck to Toni and to Deonna, who helped make this match a fun one.
Match #2: “Wild Boar” Mike Hitchman def. Josh Morrell
The following is courtesy of WWE.com:
After suffering an attack from behind, courtesy of Eddie Dennis, last week, “Turbo” Josh Morrell started off the New Year in a match against Mike Hitchman. But despite his impressive moments of offense, it was the “Wild Boar” who would ultimately reign supreme, hurling himself into his prey with an inverted cannonball senton before flattening him with a vicious splash off the top rope for the three-count.
My Take: 1.5 out of 5 – The moves were fine but this was a waste of a match.
Match #3: (Main Event) “Bomber” Dave Mastiff vs. Eddie Dennis
The following is courtesy of WWE.com:
Following weeks of mutual chaos which merely intensified their rivalry, Eddie Dennis once again battled Dave Mastiff in a rematch established to finally settle matters between them. It didn’t go quite as planned. From the word “go,” the two dominant individuals unleashed an absolute demolition derby of pain on each other. But, when they both put their hands on the official during an out-of-control slugfest, the referee was forced to call for the bell and disqualify them both. This failed to stop their assault on each other, however, and after numerous referees and Assistant to the General Manager Sid Scala were called in to break it up, General Manager Johnny Saint declared that the two intense foes would again square off in a No Disqualification Match at NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool.
My Take: 2 out of 5 – This was angle with no bend. This might as well have been a commercial for boxing gloves.
News Of The Night:
- Dave Mastiff will fight Eddie Dennis in a No Disqualification Match at NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool.
- Joe Coffey and Pete Dunne brawled to continue their feud for the NXT:UK Title.
Final Verdict: 2/5
This was a “blink and you’ll miss it” kind of show. NXT: UK is starting to get dull and fast.
