Hey guys, Mark here. As my comics addiction turned much more literal last week and I ended up buying 10 new books at the store (along with attempting to inject Hawkeye pages into my bloodstream with my trusty [hip drug] needle, which is EXACTLY as hard as it sounds), I decided to go for brevity and […]
19th June 2013 Jack Saga Volume 2, trade paperback, Brian K Vaughan, Fiona Staples, Image Comics This is the first of two trade paperbacks I splurged on this week, though technically I’ve saved money by choosing to follow Saga in trades rather than monthly books. Saga is the uh, saga of a couple from opposing […]
12th June 2013 Hey there, kids/adults/other! Today’s something of a bumper issue as Jack and I appear to actually have bought more than one comic each this week, so be prepared for us to go on a bit. And by “us” I of course mean “me”. It also marks the tenth installment of Panel Discussion. We made […]
29th May 2013 Jack X-Men #1, Brian Wood, Olivier Coipel, Marvel Comics After a couple of delays, Brian Wood’s all female cast X-Men book finally hit shelves this week. I’d been intrigued by the concept and had been looking forward to it for some time. Regular readers will know that I was burned somewhat by All […]
May 23rd 2013 Mark Young Avengers #5, Kieron Gillen, Jamie McKelvie, Marvel The conclusion of Gillen & McKelvie’s first arc sees the proper (re)formation of the teen team, a revelation or two about new addition Kid Loki (inherited from Kieron Gillen’s recently-concluded Journey Into Mystery run) and of course a couple of innovatively-rendered fight scenes […]
8th May 2013 Batman #20, Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo, DC Comics It’s taken me some time to come around to Scott Snyder’s run on Batman but now I’m fully on board. I couldn’t stand the Court of Owls plotline when I first read it, but since then, I’ve made a real U-turn on my Snyder-based […]
I don’t know about you, but I thoroughly enjoyed last week’s crossover team up with Mark. Hey Mark, that’s ill skills you got there! As a result, I picked up Jupiter’s Legacy. I’ve not read it yet, but I am looking forward to it. (That bit might seem like I’ve written it about myself, but […]
I made a double stop to Orbital this week, picking up a number of new titles, a couple of reprint of popular comics from the last few months and dabbled with DC’s ‘WTF certified’ experiment. I bought two (two!) Marvel comics too, in an effort to branch out of my comfort zone a little. 3rd […]
When Phil asked if I’d be interested in writing a regular comics column for the new site, I was happy to confirm that I most certainly was. In my mid to late teens I’d started picking up or being lent the odd graphic novel with some of Alan Moore’s stuff and Dark Horse’s The Mask […]
