‘WWE NXT’ Review (Jul 1st 2025)
Welcome to this week’s review of NXT, right here on Nerdly. Let’s get straight into it and see what went down on this week’s show!

Match #1: Joe Hendry def. Wes Lee
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Joe Hendry sent a message to TNA World Champion Trick Williams by defeating Wes Lee with an assist from fellow TNA star Mike Santana. Williams watched on commentary as Hendry and Lee clashed inside the ring with Hendry having to deal with Tyson Dupont Tyriek Igwe’s presence at ringside. With the numbers game against him, Hendry found help in the form of Mike Santana who promptly dispatched High Ryze which allowed Hendry to hit Lee with a match-ending Standing Ovation.
My Score: 3 out of 5
Match #2: Myles Borne def. Lexis King
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Myles Borne continues to shine as a singles competitor and did so by taking a bite out of Lexis King. The brash King mocked not only Borne, but took time out from the match to chastise Florida Gator football players George Gumbs Jr. and Tyreak Sapp who were guests of Borne for the evening. The mockery wasn’t well-received from the NXT Universe and they rallied behind Borne even harder as he hit a crushing Neckbreaker to win the match and then celebrate with his Gator football friends.
My Score: 2.5 out of 5
Match #3: Lainey Reid def. Thea Hail
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Lainey Reid scored the biggest win of her young career as she stunned Thea Hail in singles action. The athletic Reid showed off a newfound aggression, but it was matched by Thea, who is always looking to expel her vast amounts of energy. The two upstart Superstars battled back and forth when Reid clocked Hail with a Jumping Knee Strike, and she proceeded to grab the bottom rope for leverage which gave her enough time to steal the win.
My Score: 2 out of 5
Match #4: Izzi Dame & Tatum Paxley def. Sol Ruca & Zaria
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Tatum Paxley has officially found new friends and it is Izzi Dame and The Culling. Women’s North American Champion Sol Ruca and Zaria are one of the best tag teams in all of NXT, but even they were caught off guard by how well Paxley and Dame worked together as a team. Ruca and Zaria looked poised to end the bout, but Paxley shoved Dame out of the way and the Aussie’s Spear connected with Ruca by accident. Paxley quickly knocked Zaria out of the ring, allowing Dame to hit the champion with a huge Sitout Spinebuster for the victory.
My Score: 3 out of 5
Match #5: Yoshiki Inamura def. Jasper Troy
The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Yoshiki Inamura is headed to Great American Bash as he overcame the hulking Jasper Troy to become the No. 1 Contender to the NXT Championship. It was a clash of strength as the two powerful Superstars brutalized each other, with Inamura somehow overcoming a Black Hole Slam from the LFG Season One winner. Inamura psyched himself and hit a huge power slam before scaling the top rope and nailing his signature diving splash to punch his ticket to Atlanta.
My Score: 3 out of 5
Final Verdict: 2.5/5
While this week’s NXT didn’t deliver anything spectacular in the ring, the episode still managed to be an enjoyable watch. One of the biggest improvements was how much more streamlined and purposeful everything felt – something that had been missing from the past couple of shows, which seemed to be spinning their wheels. With both Great American Bash and Evolution now looming, the creative direction appears to have snapped back into focus, and the results are encouraging. Still, not a standout episode for overall match quality.
