‘TNA Wrestling’ Review (Jan 16th 2025)

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this week’s review of TNA Wrestling, Let’s get straight into the review and see what went down on this week’s show as the road to Genesis continues…

Match #1: Leon Slater def. Trent Seven

The following is courtesy of tnawrestling.com:

Frankie Kazarian joins Tom Hannifan and Matthew Rehwoldt on commentary as Leon Slater battles Trent Seven in tonight’s opening contest! Kazarian and Slater will face off this Sunday on Countdown to Genesis. The bell rings and Slater puts his quickness on display. Seven gains control with a Snap Dragon suplex on the floor. Slater just makes it back into the ring before the referee’s 10 count. Seven hits the Seven Star Lariat, followed by a twisting Piledriver for two. Seven nails the Birminghammer but it’s still not enough. Slater bounces back with a DDT on the ramp. Slater launches himself off the ramp, crashing into Seven on the floor. Slater puts him away with the Swanton 450 to win.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #2: Eric Young & Steve Maclin def. Fir$t Cla$$ (A.J. Francis & KC Navarro)

The following is courtesy of tnawrestling.com:

Before Eric Young and Steve Maclin seek revenge on The System’s Eddie Edwards and Brian Myers this Sunday at Genesis, they look to teach Fir$t Cla$$ a lesson in respect! Francis hits Maclin with Tennessee Whisky in the corner. KC Navarro confronts actor Judd Lormand and his children at ringside. Lormand pushes him down, leading to Francis putting his hands on Lormand. Security separates the two before the situation escalates any further. Back in the ring, Maclin turns the tide with an Olympic Slam to Francis. Young bites Navarro, then drops him with a top rope elbow drop to win.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #3: Jake Something def. Laredo Kid

The following is courtesy of tnawrestling.com:

The action continues as Laredo Kid clashes with Jake Something! The early advantage to Something, asserting his power advantage. Kid creates separation, planting him with a DDT for two. Laredo heads to the top rope but Something halts his momentum with a forearm blast. Something hits a thunderous top-rope powerbomb to win.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #4: The Hardys (Matt & Jeff) def. PCO & Sami Callihan

The following is courtesy of tnawrestling.com:

PCO and Sami Callihan take on the reigning TNA World Tag Team Champions, The Hardys. If PCO and Callihan win, they will be added to the TNA World Tag Team Title match involving The Hardys and the Rascalz at Genesis! Before the match begins, PCO and Callihan are once again taunted by the mysterious number 23. The Rascalz are seen watching on from backstage. Callihan and PCO cut off the ring as they begin to wear Matt down. Moments later, Matt creates some much-needed separation with a double DDT to PCO and Callihan. Matt tags in Jeff as the pace begins to quicken. Jeff soars with Whisper in the Wind to PCO. Matt takes out Callihan with the Twist of Fate. Jeff puts Callihan away with the Swanton Bomb for three.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Final Verdict: 3/5

A solid episode of TNA this week but one that felt like a small step-down from last week. Maybe it was the low number of matches and the ridiculous amount of promos and talking head stuff? But hey, when you get in bed with the WWE you’ve got to start producing content in the same way don’t you?!
