‘TNA Wrestling’ Review (Jan 2nd 2025)

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this week’s review of TNA Wrestling, Let’s get straight into the review and see what went down on the first show of 2025…

Match #1: Ryan Nemeth def. Rhino (DQ)

The following is courtesy of tnawrestling.com:

Rhino goes for an early Gore but Ryan escapes to the outside. Ryan shoves him face-first into the steel ring post to gain control. Back in the ring, Rhino drops Ryan with a TKO for two. Ryan introduces a steel chair but it comes back to haunt him. Rhino cracks him in the back with the chair, causing the disqualification.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #2: Ace Austin def. KUSHIDA

The following is courtesy of tnawrestling.com:

Two of the X-Division’s best collide as KUSHIDA takes on Ace Austin! The early advantage goes to Austin following a slingshot crossbody to the outside. KUSHIDA does serious damage with a Cross Armbreaker on the apron. Austin fights through the pain, connecting with a one-armed Gutwrench Powerbomb. KUSHIDA picks him off the top to secure an Armbar. Austin breaks free, then counters Back to the Future. Austin puts KUSHIDA away with The Fold.

My Score: 4 out of 5

Match #3: Masha Slamovich, Jordynne Grace & Spitfire (Jody Threat & Dani Luna) def. Tasha Steelz, Rosemary, Ash & Heather By Elegance

The following is courtesy of tnawrestling.com:

The Knockouts take Center Stage for tonight’s huge 8-Knockout tag team main event! The match quickly breaks down as all 8 competitors brawl in the middle of the ring. Spitfire dive through the ropes, crashing into their opponents on the outside. The Personal Concierge creates a distraction, allowing Ash to attack Threat from behind. Threat is trapped in the corner as her opponents cut off the ring and employ quick tags. Threat creates separation, allowing her to make the tag to Grace. The pace quickens as Grace hits Ash with the Vader Bomb. Heather spikes Luna with a tornado DDT. Steelz hits the Blackout on Slamovich but Spitfire break the count. Slamovich plants Steelz with Requiem to score the pinfall victory.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Final Verdict: 3/5

An okay start for TNA in 2025. While Rhino’s last match in TNA was a damp squib, Kushida’s final match was a barn-stormer and showed why losing him would be a huge loss for the company. As for the main event, it was a great 8-woman tag that had great action, and good storytelling (plus it made Masha look like the face of TNA going forward) and then it was abruptly let down by the appearance of Tessa Blanchard who’s clearly been hired to replace the outgoing Jordynne Grace as the “big name” of the women’s division.
