‘WWE Smackdown’ Review (Dec 13th 2024)

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this review of this past Friday’s episode of Smackdown, right here on Nerdly. Let’s see what went down on this week’s show…

Match #1: Women’s United States Title Tournament – Michin def. Tiffany Stratton

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Michin is one step closer to making history and becoming the first-ever Women’s United States Champion after she defeated Tiffany Stratton in the semifinals. It looked like it was Tiffy Time for Ms. Money in the Bank, but Michin showed great wherewithal to weather the storm and plant Stratton with a huge tornado DDT. Stratton went for the win and nearly hit the Prettiest Moonsault Ever, but Michin rolled out of the way just enough to hit Eat Defeat to punch her ticket to the finals.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #2: Braun Strowman def. Carmelo Hayes

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis made good on his promise to find an opponent for Carmelo Hayes, but unfortunately for Hayes, it was the monstrous Braun Strowman. Hayes fought valiantly, but Strowman’s massive size advantage was too much to overcome, as a thunderous Running Powerslam clicnhed the win for The Monster of All Monsters.

My Score: 1 out of 5

Match #3: LA Knight vs. Solo Sikoa (No-Contest)

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

LA Knight and Solo Sikoa were waging war inside the ring before an enraged Jacob Fatu unleashed on Knight to force a no-contest. Knight and Sikoa traded incredible shots, including a Uranage on the announce by The Tribal Chief and a huge, ring-shaking back suplex from The Megastar.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #4: Women’s United States Title Tournament – Chelsea Green def. Bayley

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Chelsea Green punched her ticket to the finals of Women’s United States Title Tournament after defeating Bayley thanks to an assist from Piper Niven. Bayley was determined to make history, but Green remained resilient and even hit a Ruff Ryder that nearly won her the match. As she’s been known to do, Niven interjected herself into the action and distracted Bayley long enough for Green to hit the Unpretty-Her and advance her to Saturday Night’s Main Event.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Final Verdict: 2.5/5

An OK episode of Smackdown this week, one that was carried by a couple of decent women’s title tournament matches and a good outing between LA Knight and Solo Sikoa. However, it was clear this week’s show was something of a stop-gap whilst he returning Saturday Night Main Event airs the night after. I sat stop-gap, as this SHOULD have been a go-home show but apart from the Owens/Cody stuff nothing really felt like a hard sell for SNME.
