‘WWE NXT’ Review (Sep 3rd 2024)

by Phil Wheat

Welcome to this week’s review of NXT, right here on Nerdly. Let’s get straight into it and see what went down in this episode; and the possible fallout from last weekend’s No Mercy PLE…

Match #1: NXT Tag Team Title No. 1 Contender Match – The Rascalz def. Hank Walker & Tank Ledger and Gallus

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

With Je’Von Evans and The Good Brothers getting in on the action in the final moments, The Rascalz took advantage of the bedlam and hit dual high-flying attacks on Tank Ledger to give them a Triple Threat Match victory to become No. 1 Contenders to NXT Tag Team Champions Nathan Frazer & Axiom.

My Score: 3.5 out of 5

Match #2: Lexis King def. Oro Mensah

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

After getting inside the head of Oro Mensah to knock him off his game, the nefarious Lexis King used the ropes to steal the victory.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #3: Tatum Paxley def. Rosemary

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Tatum Paxley used a high impact offense to overcome an intimidating Rosemary. When Wendy Choo joined Rosemary in a 2-on-1 post-match attack, Lyra Valkyria once again emerged to even the odds and sent them packing.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Match #4: Trick Williams vs. Pete Dunne (Double Count-Out)

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

After fighting throughout the night, the brutal subsequent match between Trick Williams and Pete Dunne moved out to ringside. After battling on top of the ring barricade, the two Superstars drove each other through the announce table and the official was forced to rule the showdown a double count-out. In the aftermath, both Williams and Dunne began to fight again in a completely out-of-control post-match brawl.

My Score: 3 out of 5

Match #5: Je’Von Evans def. Joe Coffey

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

After Cedric Alexander emerged from nowhere to even-the-odds against the interfering members of Gallus, Je’Von Evans took to the sky and handed Joe Coffey a huge defeat.

My Score:2.5  out of 5

Match #6: Oba Femi def. Stacks

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

North American Champion Oba Femi took sides against the Family again when he followed up his victory over Tony D’Angelo at NXT No Mercy with a dominant victory over Stacks.

My Score: 2 out of 5

Match #7: Jaida Parker def. Jazmyn Nyx

The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Following an altercation backstage, OTM’s Jaida Parker ultimately defeated Jazmyn Nyx with the hip check. After the bell, however, Parker fell victim to the 3-on-1 attack by Fatal Influence.

My Score: 2.5 out of 5

Final Verdict: 3/5

A nice post-PLE “reset” for the black and gold brand, both continuing the feuds/stories started at No Mercy and beginning new ones too – all in a lead-up to the move to the CW in October, planting the seeds and the excitement for that transition and even lining up a women’s title match for the debut! There’s interesting stuff happening with The Rascalz right now too, with Zachary Wentz picking up the X Division title on TNA before beating Wes Lee at No Mercy and now The Rascalz have won a number one contender match for the NXT tag titles… All the while Joe Hendry is losing the “big” matches yet is more over than anyone right now?! I’m honestly looking forward to seeing how this brand crossover all plays out, in fact its probably THE most interesing thing going on in the WWE right now!
