‘Vampire Time Travelers’ Blu-ray Review (Visual Vengeance)

by Jason Lockard

Writer/director Les Sekely made a name for himself with cult curios like Night of the Living Date, The Not-So-Grim Reaper and The Alien Conspiracy: Grey Skies. But in 1998, he delivered what would become a genuine favourite among genre fans: Vampire Time Travelers. Now, the film gets the deluxe treatment it deserves courtesy of Visual Vengeance, a label renowned for giving low-budget horror oddities lavish Blu-ray releases packed with love. And now it’s time for these vampires to travel into 2026, living forever in yet another gloriously over-the-top collector’s edition.

A group of college girls pledging a sorority stumble into a hallucinatory mix of low-budget, butt-biting vampires, unexplained time jumps, and increasingly ridiculous supernatural situations. What could have easily been a standard late-’90s sexy campus romp instead mutates into a kinetic, self-aware horror spoof. It stacks crude jokes, whiplash editing, and chaotic genre detours at such a relentless pace that it plays less like a conventional shot-on-video vampire film and more like a live-action cartoon funhouse spiraling out of control.

Vampire Time Travelers never pretends to be anything other than the gloriously campy slice of sci-fi horror that it is, and that self-awareness is part of its charm. In fact, the film fully embraces — and celebrates — its low-budget eccentricities. Clocking in at just over an hour, it moves at a brisk pace, never outstaying its welcome, with surprisingly sharp editing helping to keep the energy high throughout. Add in a soundtrack that perfectly complements the film’s offbeat tone, and you’ve got a cult oddity that knows exactly what it’s doing. If you have a soft spot for campy sci-fi horror, Vampire Time Travelers is likely to be right up your alley.

Visual Vengeance has transferred Vampire Time Travelers to Blu-ray in 1080p, presented in 1.33:1 aspect ratio. The transfer features a new director-approved SD master from original tape elements. Be aware, this is low-budget horror movie fare from the 90s; of course, this is not going to look like a film shot in 2026. But there is something satisfying about seeing a film that you would see on VHS tape with all its imperfections come to Blu-ray. A Blu-ray which includes Visual Vengeance’s usual copious amount of extras, including:

Special Features:

  • Commentary with director Les Sekely
  • Director Les Sekely interview
  • Actress JJ Rodgers interview
  • Actress Angelia Scott interview

  • I Know What You Did in English Class – Visual Vengeance Trailer

As usual, Visual Vengeance has gone above and beyond with the extras here, packing this release with a wealth of bonus material – from interviews and trailers to the label’s typically fantastic artwork. It’s the kind of stacked special edition cult film fans have come to expect. But the standout supplements have to be the inclusion of the short film The Not-So-Grim Reaper and Sekely’s 2000 horror feature I Know What You Did in English Class, both of which add even more value to an already impressively loaded release.

**** 4/5

If you love campy vampire horror films, then Vampire Time Travelers will be for you – and all the bonus features really take this Blu-ray to a whole other level of cool. So head over to Amazon and order your copy now.
