‘Die My Love’ Blu-ray Review

by Jason Lockard

Stars: Jennifer Lawrence, LaKeith Stanfield, Robert Pattinson, Sissy Spacek, Nick Nolte, Gabrielle Rose, Clare Coulter | Written by Enda Walsh, Lynne Ramsay, Alice Birch | Directed by Lynne Ramsay

Let’s be honest, Jennifer Lawrence isn’t just “Academy Award-nominated” – she’s one of the most recognisable faces of modern Hollywood. Whether she’s blue and shapeshifting as Mystique in the X-Men film series or leading a revolution as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games film series, Lawrence built her career on roles that hit big both culturally and commercially.

Fast forward to 2025 and she pivots into darker territory with the psychological thriller Die My Love – a film that leans hard into mood, intensity and, let’s face it, the kind of performance she thrives on. And now, thanks to MUBI, Die My Love gets the treatment it deserves on Blu-ray. Yes, actual physical media. None of this “lost in the algorithm” streaming nonsense. If you’re a Lawrence fan, or just someone who still believes films should sit proudly on a shelf rather than disappear into a digital void, this is one worth owning.

Grace, a writer and young mother, is slowly slipping into madness. Locked away in an old house in and around Montana, we see her acting increasingly agitated and erratic, leaving her companion, Jackson, increasingly worried and helpless.

Let’s be real, arthouse cinema is niche, it’s divisive, and it usually knows exactly who it’s playing to. Die My Love, however, tries to have its cake and eat it too – pitching itself as a psychological thriller, while layering in drama and a streak of dark humour. On paper, that genre mash-up sounds intriguing. In practice? It’s a bit of a mess. The tonal shifts feel clunky rather than clever, and instead of blending genres, the film sort of lurches between them. The result is something that never fully commits to any one identity – and suffers for it. And look, I’m firmly in the camp of “will watch anything with” Jennifer Lawrence. She’s consistently compelling, even when the material isn’t. But here? Even she can’t quite pull the film together. I really wanted to like this one. I just… didn’t.

Die My Love has been transferred to Blu-Ray in 1080p, presented in 1.37:1 aspect ratio. The audio track is an English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and 2.0. There are also options for English Audio Description and English subtitles. French DTS 5.1, French DTS 2.0, French Audio Description. And additional Subtitles in French and Spanish. The Blu-ray transfer is good, and there are no signs of digital artefacts or audio anomalies. However… there are no bonus features on this disc! That is a huge disappointment. There is no interview, audio commentary or even a trailer – and on a MUBI release, a film company dedicated to great cinema, is a crying shame.

Understandably, Die My Love isn’t going to click with everyone. But if you’re already tuned into this kind of offbeat, arthouse-leaning storytelling, there’s enough here to make it a worthwhile watch. That said, the Blu-ray itself? A bit of a shrug. No bonus features, no added value – just the film and nothing else. For physical media fans, that’s a missed opportunity.
